Download an episode on iPhone or iPad

Open the Apple TV app and find the show.

Choose a season if needed, then select the download option for the whole season or for an individual episode.

To watch offline later, open Library > Downloaded.
Download an episode on Mac or Windows PC

Open the episode’s More menu and choose Download.

Open Library > Downloaded to find saved episodes. On Windows, if Downloaded is missing from the library sidebar, edit the sidebar and turn it on.

Apple’s current episode-download instructions cover iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC, and Apple Vision Pro. Button names and layout can vary with the operating system and app version. Availability of Apple TV features and content also varies by country or region.
Which devices can save episodes?
For Apple TV subscription and channel episodes, download to a supported phone, tablet, or computer before you lose connectivity. Apple says downloads are not available from the Apple TV app on Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, smart TVs, streaming devices, or tv.apple.com. Apple’s general library guide also describes downloads on Android devices for some library content, but that does not establish the episode-specific subscription workflow; check the content’s options in the app rather than assuming it is downloadable.

Why is the Download option missing?

The channel or title may not allow downloads. Download eligibility varies by channel and content, so a missing option does not necessarily mean the app or device is malfunctioning.

You may have reached a download limit. Apple says the app will alert you when a title or device limit is reached. Deleting earlier downloads from your own or family members’ devices may free space under the applicable limit.

You may be using a streaming-only device. Apple TV boxes, smart TVs, streaming devices, and tv.apple.com do not download Apple TV subscription or channel content.
Apple’s stated simultaneous-stream limits are separate from download limits: most Apple TV subscription content allows six simultaneous streams, while most Apple TV channels allow up to three; some titles or channels allow fewer. These figures describe concurrent streaming, not how many episodes you can download.

How long do downloaded episodes remain available?
Do not treat a subscription or channel download as permanent. Apple says most Apple TV channel downloads last up to 30 days, while some channels may use shorter periods. Some Apple TV subscription titles expire 48 hours after playback begins or 30 days after download, whichever happens first.

How purchases and rentals differ
Purchased shows and episodes
Apple says purchased digital media can be downloaded to compatible iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Windows PC devices for offline use. Apple also cautions that a purchased item may become unavailable for future download or access if its content rights change. If continued local access matters, download the purchase to a compatible device you control.
Movie rentals
Rental timing is a separate rule and should not be applied to subscription episodes. For a movie rental, Apple’s guidance gives 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish after playback begins.

Apple Support’s article, “Download and stream shows, movies, sports, and events from your Apple TV subscription and Apple TV channels,” published August 18, 2026, states: “You can’t download content from the Apple TV app on Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, smart TVs, streaming devices and on tv.apple.com.” See Apple Support’s download and streaming instructions, the Apple TV app user guide, Apple’s guidance on purchased content, and Apple’s rental guidance.
