To get a copy of your Discord account data, submit a request in User Settings > Data & Privacy. Discord emails a link to the address associated with your account when you make the request. The download is a ZIP archive of JSON files you can open with a text editor or browser; it may contain private messages, account identifiers, IP addresses and other sensitive information, so keep it secure.
Request your Discord Data Package
Discord offers separate request paths for desktop or browser and mobile. The desktop/browser dialog lets you select data; the mobile guide describes a request for all of your data.

On desktop or in a browser
- Open Discord and select the cogwheel to open User Settings.

- Select Request Data.
- Choose the data in the request dialog and submit Request My Data.
- Keep the confirmation and check the email address linked to your account for the download link.
On mobile
- Tap your avatar or profile area in the lower-right corner.
- Open Settings with the cogwheel, then select Data & Privacy.
- Choose Request all of my data and complete the request dialog.
- Check the email address linked to your account for the download link.
Before submitting, check your email and account access
Discord requires a verified email address, and only one request can be in progress at a time. The link goes to the email associated with the account when you submitted the request; changing the account email afterward does not redirect it. Disabling or deleting the account before the link arrives cancels the request. If you permanently lose access to the account, Discord directs you to [email protected] for help with a personal-records request.
Discord says an individual request can take up to 30 days to process. The download link remains active for 30 days after it is sent, so download the archive promptly. Discord’s reported 2025 average resolution time of 2.9 days is an aggregate across access requests, not a delivery estimate or guarantee for an individual Data Package.

What the ZIP archive contains
Discord describes the Data Package as a ZIP folder containing JSON files. Its guide to the Data Package says you can open JSON with Notepad on Windows, TextEdit on macOS, or a browser such as Chrome or Firefox.
| Folder or category | What Discord says it may contain |
|---|---|
| Account | Identifiers and contact information, settings, connected accounts, IP address, active sessions (including IP address), friends and block lists, payment information and history, developer information, activity statistics, notes written about users, and other account data. |
| Activity | Analytics, modeling, reporting, and Trust & Safety data. Discord says Trust & Safety data is retained for up to two years. |
| Activities | Preferences and data tied to the first-party Discord activities listed in the guide. |
| Messages | Messages you sent, arranged in direct-message, group-message, and channel folders. Records include an ID, timestamp, contents, and attachment links. |
| Servers | For servers you own, data can include uploaded emoji, audit-log actions, channel permissions, settings, and webhooks. For servers where you are a member, the package includes certain account-related audit-log actions from the last 90 days and the server ID and name. |
| Ads | Information about Quests you interacted with and traits associated with ad tailoring. |
| Support tickets | Public comments and ticket metadata for Help Center tickets tied to your Discord email. |
The Account and Messages areas can expose particularly sensitive information, including identifiers, IP and session details, payment history, private conversations, and links to attachments. Treat the archive as you would other confidential account records: store it somewhere private and do not upload it to an online viewer you do not trust.
Review the files without losing context
- Keep an untouched copy. Preserve the original ZIP before opening or reorganizing its contents.
- Start with the folder structure. Look for any included mapping or index JSON files, then note the top-level folders relevant to what you want to review.
- Use identifiers to orient yourself. Channel and server IDs can help you interpret message folders and records.
- Search locally. Open JSON files in a text editor or browser and search for dates, terms, or channel names you recognize.
JSON is structured text rather than a polished chat transcript, so IDs and timestamps may be more useful when read alongside the folder names and any included mapping files.
Understand what the export does not show
- Manually deleted messages are omitted. Discord says messages that were manually deleted are no longer stored and will not appear in the package.
- Server coverage is limited. Server information reflects servers you are in when you request the package and some recently departed servers; a server you left before making the request may be absent.
- The package is not a complete history of everything you have seen or done. Its contents vary by category and server relationship, as described in Discord’s guide.
Discord Support cannot review the archive on your behalf. If you believe something is missing, Discord says you can contact support.
Requesting a package is separate from privacy controls
Requesting a Data Package does not itself change how Discord uses information. Discord’s Data Privacy Controls page describes controls in User Settings, including options related to analytics and personalization. Review the controls in your current client, since interface wording can change.
