To install a Game Pass game, open the Xbox experience on your console or Windows PC, sign in with the account that has access to the game, find its current listing, and choose the install option shown there. The exact controls can vary by device and may change, so use Xbox’s current installation guide if the screens differ.
Before you install: check your account and the game
Game access depends on the account signed in, its current subscription entitlement, and whether the game is available for your device. A title associated with Game Pass is not necessarily available to every plan or on every platform, and catalog availability can change. Check the game’s listing and your current plan before troubleshooting an install. Xbox explains how to manage your subscription.

Install on an Xbox console or Windows PC
- Open the Xbox interface for the device you want to use: the Xbox console interface on a console, or the Xbox app on a Windows PC.
- Sign in to the account with the relevant Game Pass access.
- Find the game in the current catalog or search for its listing. Confirm that it is offered for your device and account.
- Choose the install control shown on that listing and, if prompted, select an installation location.
- Check the device’s queue or installation status screen to see whether the download is pending, in progress, or complete. Xbox provides guidance for viewing software installation status.
Labels and available options may differ between PC and console, so follow the prompts on your device rather than relying on a fixed button name. Xbox’s installation customization guide covers choosing and managing where games are installed.

If a Game Pass game will not install
Work through these checks in order. They help separate an access issue from a device, queue, or storage issue without assuming a particular error code has one universal cause.

- Confirm access. Make sure you are signed in to the account with the relevant subscription access, then check that the game is currently available to that account.
- Confirm platform availability. Check the game’s listing for the device you are using. Availability on one platform does not establish availability on another.
- Inspect the install queue or status screen. See whether the game is waiting, downloading, paused, or already installed; use Xbox’s installation status guidance if needed.
- Check the selected location and free space. Review the destination drive and available capacity. Required space and compatible locations depend on the device and game; check the game listing and device requirements rather than relying on a general storage figure.
- Use the support path for your device. For Windows PC installation failures, follow Xbox’s PC game installation troubleshooting. For other devices, consult the relevant Xbox support instructions.
Install locally or play through the cloud?
Cloud play and local installation are separate ways to access a game. A local install downloads game files to your device and uses its storage; cloud play streams a supported game and avoids downloading the full game locally. Cloud availability depends on the individual game, device, access tier, and region, so check the current listing before choosing that route.
