If you don’t recognize a Google Play charge, first confirm that it is actually from Google Play, then report it through the route for the payment method used. Google’s stated reporting windows are 120 days for credit card, debit card, and PayPal transactions, and 60 days for mobile-carrier billing. If the charge is outside its window—or the statement descriptor does not identify Google—contact the payment provider’s fraud department promptly.
How do I tell whether a charge is from Google Play?
Check the exact wording on your bank or payment statement. Google Play charges may appear as “GOOGLE*App developer name,” “GOOGLE*App name,” or “GOOGLE*Content type,” such as Google Books. A charge that does not begin with Google is not from Google Play according to Google; contact the payment provider’s fraud department. Compare the transaction with your Google Play order history, Google Payments activity, and subscriptions. Not every Google payment or Google Pay transaction appears in Play order history, so check Google Payments activity too.
Is it unauthorized, or should you request a refund?
If a friend or family member made the purchase accidentally using your account, Google directs you to request a refund rather than report an unknown transaction. Use the unauthorized-charge process when neither you nor anyone you know made the purchase. Google’s refund policy explains refund requests.

Before reporting, check for common causes of a charge that looks unfamiliar:
- A family member or friend made a purchase.
- A pending charge remains after an order was recently canceled.
- A duplicate pending authorization appears on the statement.
- A small temporary authorization appeared after you added a payment method.
Match dates and amounts across the statement, purchase history, and subscriptions. If none of these checks explains a Google Play charge and no one you know made it, proceed with the reporting route below.

Choose the reporting route by payment method

The 120-day and 60-day limits are the action windows Google states in its current guidance, not estimates of approval odds. Google says an email update is typically sent within seven business days after filing an eligible claim; this is not a guaranteed resolution time. These steps do not establish that a bank or payment-provider dispute will result in a Google refund.

Keep the Claim ID Google emails you and the email address used for the report. Use both to check claim status. If you submitted while signed in and later recognize the charge, Google provides an option to cancel the claim.

If someone else may know your Google Account password or you use a shared device, change or reset the password. You can also turn on Google Play purchase verification to help prevent future unauthorized purchases.
