Use YouTube’s built-in membership signals for badges, member messages and chat access, then add a concise panel to the video itself if you want the offer to remain visible throughout a 24/7 stream. Keep the panel accurate to the perks your channel actually offers, and direct viewers to the channel’s Join or See perks area for the full details.
What viewers can see without an on-screen panel
YouTube memberships can include channel badges, members-only posts, custom emoji, early access to videos, members-only live chat or livestreams, milestone chats, a member recognition shelf, Shorts and videos, and a new-member chat message. These are possible benefits, not a promise that every channel has enabled them. Benefits can differ by level; higher-priced levels include perks from lower levels.
- Badges: Membership badges appear beside members’ names in comments and live chat. Badges can indicate membership tenure.
- New-member message: When someone joins during a livestream, YouTube displays a bright green New Member message. The member’s profile picture is pinned at the top of chat for five minutes.
- Members-only chat: You can make chat members-only while keeping the livestream public. Everyone can watch, but only members can post.
- Milestone chats: Eligible members can send a highlighted message once per month from their second consecutive month of membership. The message is visible to all viewers.
- Custom emoji: Members can use creator-uploaded emoji in live chat. They are not available automatically; the creator must upload them.
These native signals help viewers recognize membership and participate, but they do not guarantee that someone watching the video will notice or understand the channel’s full offer. A short in-video panel can explain the offer independently of chat.
Set up the membership offer before advertising it
Configure membership levels and perks in YouTube Studio before writing the panel. YouTube allows up to six levels, with one to five perks per level. Proposed levels and perks are reviewed against YouTube policies before they go live; YouTube’s Help page says review takes about a day.

- List only active benefits. Check each level and confirm which perks are actually enabled and available to members.
- Account for stacked perks. Higher-priced levels inherit the benefits of lower levels, so avoid describing a higher tier as though it excludes those earlier perks.
- Use the channel’s Join or See perks area as the source of truth. Send viewers there for eligibility, level details and the complete offer.
Choose between YouTube’s native signals and an in-video panel

A panel is editorial guidance, not a YouTube requirement. Keep its message brief: one heading, one or two real benefits, and a direction to Join or See perks. Leave the main video visible and avoid covering important content or chat-related information.
Add the panel to an encoder-based stream
YouTube supports encoder-based productions for more advanced setups, including overlays. OBS Studio does not provide alerts itself, but its Browser Source can display a web-based overlay. This is a way to compose graphics into a scene; it does not mean a particular alert provider is endorsed by YouTube or OBS.

- Prepare the graphic or overlay. Use short, accurate wording, such as: “Members get chat badges, custom emoji, and [your actual channel perk] — see Join → Perks.” Treat this as sample copy, not official YouTube wording.
- Add it to the stream composition. In OBS, add an image or a Browser Source to the scene used for the livestream. For a web overlay, use the provider’s overlay URL and settings; verify the source in the scene before going live.
- Check the live layout. Confirm that text is readable at the intended output resolution, does not obscure the video, and remains accurate for the membership levels currently offered.
- Test the stream before relying on it. Check the composed output and chat behavior in a test or scheduled setup, then correct any cropped, hidden or stale panel content.
There is no documented required placement, wording or rotation interval for a membership panel. A simple, consistently visible treatment is a design choice, not a platform rule. You do not need dedicated hardware solely to show membership benefits; a software-based overlay is one available production path.
Plan separately for a 24/7 stream and its archive
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be saved as one complete video. Treat an always-on viewing experience and a complete archive as separate requirements, and plan the stream schedule and archive approach accordingly.
