Hackster.io’s 2019 project shows how to send a small monochrome bitmap from an Arduino UNO to an analog television using the TVout library. Its workflow is to convert an image into bitmap data, store that data in a header file, and draw it with TVout. The tutorial specifies images no larger than 128×64 pixels, while its sample sketch initializes a 128×96 PAL display; those are separate dimensions, not interchangeable limits.
What you need
- One Arduino UNO.
- Generic jumper wires.
- An analog television and a way to connect the Arduino’s TVout signal to it. The project page does not provide a complete textual wiring pinout, so confirm the wiring for the specific TVout library and hardware rather than assuming a pin assignment.
- The TVout library and the U8glib image converter linked from the project.
The project is a monochrome bitmap demonstration, not a general-purpose color-image display method. Its author describes the goal as printing an image on an analogue TV. Read the Hackster.io project.

Prepare the image and bitmap data
- Resize or reduce the source image to 128×64 pixels or smaller, as specified by the tutorial.
- Use the U8glib converter linked on the Hackster.io project page to generate code for the image.
- Copy the generated bitmap data into a header file. The example declares the image as an unsigned character array in program memory using
PROGMEM; its array is namedcar[].
The 128×64 value is the tutorial’s stated image-preparation limit. It is distinct from the sample display setup, which is 128×96.

The example sketch includes TVout.h, initializes TVout with TV.begin(_PAL, 128, 96), clears the display, then draws the bitmap using TV.bitmap(10, 10, car). The coordinates place the bitmap at (10, 10) on the initialized display. The loop includes delay(60).
#1 Best Overall
- RCA connectors provide composite video and stereo audio signal transmission.
- The av adapter work well connecting Game Consoles/ VHS/ VCD/ VCR/ DVD Player to TCL TV.
- TCL TV+AV adapter+male RCA cable, connect with other RCA device.
- The 3.5mm jack: Tip/ Ring/ Ring/ Sleeve iswired to Red /White /Ground /Yellow.
- Cable length: 6 inch.
In outline, the example’s sequence is:
- Include the TVout library and the header containing the bitmap array.
- Initialize PAL output at 128×96, matching the shown
TV.begincall. - Clear the display.
- Draw the bitmap at (10, 10) with
TV.bitmap(10, 10, car). - Use the loop delay shown in the project,
delay(60).
The page mentions PAL or NTSC in a code comment, but the displayed initialization uses _PAL. It does not provide a complete NTSC example or compare the two standards.

- VGA to RCA adapter is a portable computer to TV converter, suitable for TV standards in all countries/regions in the world. It can convert the signal output by the computer into a signal that the TV can accept. Functions include video conversion, independent horizontal/vertical position adjustment, computer and TV simultaneous display, etc. Support resolution 640x480 up to 2560x1600.
- Converter can easily help you convert VGA signal to Video / S video. In this way, the movies you download from the Internet can be completely merged into the home theater, and you can easily experience the theater effect.(Note: The converter is mainly used to convert image movies, it cannot output channel signals and no audio passes through).
- Adjust and set preferences through screen display and front control panel, support video standards: NTSC / NTSC-EIAJ / PAL / PAL-M / PAL-N, no driver required. Compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The display mode supports composite video, S-video output, position adjustment, magnification 2 times, and simultaneous display on monitor and TV.
- Plug and play, installation only takes a few seconds, plug in and work, easy to use. The standard VGA output can be used with most monitors, projectors, TVs and other display devices.
- It uses USB port or keyboard port for power supply (power supply: DC 5V 1A), plug and play installation is simple, compact and simple structure, easy to carry.
What the tutorial does not establish
- Exact wiring: the page lists an UNO and jumper wires but does not spell out a full pin-by-pin connection in text. Check the library and hardware documentation for the circuit you are building.
- Current compatibility: the project was published March 30, 2019. The page does not establish whether the TVout library remains maintained or whether the example works unchanged with current boards, libraries, and televisions.
- Display behavior beyond the example: it demonstrates a small monochrome bitmap; it does not substantiate color output, other image sizes, or guaranteed operation on every analog TV setup.
