How to Disable the Status LED on Blink Cameras by Model

The way to turn off a Blink camera’s blue light depends on its model. Find the correct app setting, physical switch, or doorbell control.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

On supported Blink cameras, open the camera’s More menu in the Blink app, go to Device Settings > General Settings > Status LED, and select Always Off. The right method depends on the model: Blink XT and XT2 use an internal switch, Indoor (1st Gen) has no Status LED control, and the Video Doorbell has a separate Button LED setting.

First identify which Blink camera you have

Blink says its blue Status LED indicates when a camera is recording motion or accessing Live View. The setting or switch for disabling it varies by model, so use the procedure for your camera below. Blink Support: How To Disable the Recording LED On Your Camera

Turn off the Status LED in the app on supported cameras

For Blink Outdoor 4, Indoor and Outdoor (3rd Gen), Mini, Mini 2, and Wired Floodlight Camera, use the camera’s settings in the Blink app:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the camera’s More menu.
  2. Tap Device Settings.
  3. Go to General Settings > Status LED.
  4. Select Always Off.

Depending on the camera family, the Status LED menu may also offer When Recording or Always On. The available choices are not identical across models. If your menu differs from these instructions, Blink says the options may appear differently when the app needs updating. Check Blink’s Device Settings guide for the current menu details.

Use the internal switch on Blink XT or XT2

XT and XT2 do not use the app setting for this change. Remove the camera’s back cover and find the REC. LED switch beside the serial number. Slide it to OFF, toward the top of the camera. Blink recommends using tweezers or a similar tool to move the switch. This tool is for the internal switch procedure; app-controlled models do not need one.

Blink Indoor (1st Gen) has no Status LED control

Blink states that Indoor (1st Gen) has no setting to control its Status LED. The app procedure for newer supported cameras does not apply to this model.

Turn off the recording light on a Blink Video Doorbell

For a Blink Video Doorbell, open Device Settings > General Settings > Button LED and choose Off when Recording. This is a Button LED control, not the camera Status LED setting. Blink’s guide lists Always On only for wired doorbells; that option does not turn the recording indicator off. See Blink’s Video Doorbell LED guide.
