You can disable or delete a standard iCloud Mail alias without deleting your primary iCloud Mail address or Apple Account. Disabling is reversible; deleting is permanent. In either case, messages sent to the stopped alias are returned to the sender, so disable it first if you are unsure.
First, confirm which kind of address you have
A standard iCloud Mail alias is an alternate @icloud.com address associated with your primary iCloud Mail address. You manage it in iCloud.com Mail settings. Apple says aliases cannot be changed, transferred, or converted into primary accounts; the controls below apply to the selected alias, not to your primary address or Apple Account. If the address is a randomly generated relay address rather than an alternate @icloud.com address you created, it may be a Hide My Email address. That feature has separate controls; see Apple’s Hide My Email instructions. Addresses used with Sign in with Apple are managed separately, too.
Disable a standard alias temporarily
- Go to icloud.com/mail and sign in to your Apple Account.
- Open the settings menu above the Mailboxes list, choose Settings, then select the alias you want to stop using.
- Check Disable alias and save your changes.
To start using the alias again, return to the same settings, clear Disable alias, and save. Apple describes turning off an alias as temporary. While it is disabled, mail sent to it is returned to the sender rather than delivered to your primary inbox. See Apple’s alias-management steps.

Delete a standard alias permanently
- In iCloud.com Mail, open the settings menu above the Mailboxes list and choose Settings.
- Select the alias you want to remove.
- Choose Delete alias and confirm.
Apple describes deletion as permanent. Mail sent to the deleted address is returned to the sender. Before deleting, change the address on services and accounts that use it and tell important contacts how to reach you. If you have three aliases and delete one, Apple says you must wait seven days before creating a new one. Apple also notes an exception for some people who retained five MobileMe aliases after migration: deleting one of those five does not allow a replacement. Apple’s guide covers these alias rules.
Disable or delete? Choose based on whether you may need the address

If you are uncertain, disable the alias first. That gives you a way to resume using it without making the permanent choice. Neither option means that mail addressed to the alias will continue arriving at your primary address.

If you meant Hide My Email
Hide My Email is an iCloud+ feature that creates unique, random addresses that forward to a personal email account. Its addresses are not standard iCloud Mail aliases. On iPhone, Apple places its controls at Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Hide My Email. On iCloud.com, you can deactivate a Hide My Email address and later reactivate it; only inactive addresses can be deleted, and deletion is permanent. Use Apple’s iCloud.com Hide My Email guide or its iPhone instructions for those controls.
