On Ray-Ban Meta glasses, you can turn off Voice Control, stop the camera from being used for Meta AI requests, or power the glasses off with the physical switch. These are separate controls: disabling camera use for AI does not disable ordinary photo or video capture, and the outward-facing capture light cannot be switched off. The steps below apply to Ray-Ban Meta, not every smart-glasses brand or model.
Choose what you want to disable

Turn off voice control
- Open the Meta AI app.
- Go to Settings, then Voice.
- Toggle Voice Control off.
Meta describes Voice Control as an opt-in setting. This is the documented control for voice interaction, but it should not be read as a guarantee that every microphone-related hardware function is disabled.

Stop camera use for Meta AI
- In the Meta AI app, open Settings.
- Choose Meta AI, or select your device and then Meta AI, depending on the app layout.
- Turn off the Meta AI and/or Camera use toggle shown for your device.
This setting concerns camera input for AI prompts—for example, asking Meta AI to identify a plant or landmark in view. According to the Ray-Ban Meta FAQ, that workflow sends a photo to Meta’s cloud for AI processing; the app can show the request, image, and response. It is distinct from taking a photo or video for the glasses’ gallery, so do not treat the AI camera toggle as a general camera-off switch.

Ray-Ban Meta has a setting that keeps the microphone active briefly after a request so you can ask a follow-up without repeating “Hey Meta.” To turn off that behavior, open Meta AI settings, go to Hey Meta preferences, and disable Respond without ‘Hey Meta’. Meta says the microphone turns off automatically after a few seconds when there is no follow-up. This is a narrower control than turning off Voice Control.

Power the glasses off
- Find the switch on the left inner arm, near the hinge.
- Slide it all the way left.
- Check for the notification LED blinking red, which Ray-Ban says signals that the glasses have turned off.
Powering off is the clearest device-level choice when you want the glasses inactive, rather than merely restricting an AI feature.
Understand the two LEDs
The outward-facing capture LED signals capture. Meta’s official July 2026 FAQ states: “The capture LED has no off switch.” The FAQ also says camera use is disabled when the system detects that the LED has been physically tampered with or destroyed. Do not cover, modify, or attempt to defeat the indicator.

The inward-facing notification LED communicates device status and has an adjustable brightness setting in the app. Dimming that light does not disable the outward-facing capture indicator.
Consider privacy and data handling
Meta advises asking permission before taking photos or videos of people and avoiding sensitive locations or places where people expect privacy. The visible capture light can signal capture, but it does not replace consent or applicable local rules. If your aim is to ensure camera and microphone functions are inactive, turn the glasses off and check the manufacturer’s status indication instead of relying on the appearance of a light alone.

The Ray-Ban FAQ says photos processed for AI are stored and used to improve Meta products and may be used to train Meta AI with trained reviewers. Meta’s broader responsible-innovation information separately says deleted voice recordings are removed from future training use. Those statements describe different data practices, not one blanket privacy promise. Review the current app privacy controls and Meta privacy terms if data handling is a concern.
