Disabling the Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender debug console is different from undoing cheat effects already saved into a playthrough. To hide the console, turn off its CreateConsole setting; to stop mods from loading, disable supported mods or remove the relevant PC mod files. Neither action is a documented universal rollback for changes already saved to your character or world.
Before changing mods, back up your saves. Larian warns that a save created with mods may fail to load or become unstable if the mods it depends on are disabled.

First identify what you mean by “console cheats”
BG3 players may mean either the separate debug window associated with Script Extender or gameplay changes made through cheats and mods. These are different problems, with different fixes:

- You installed mods through the in-game Mod Manager: uncheck the relevant mods there.
- You installed third-party mods on PC: identify and remove the relevant files, taking care not to erase files your save still needs.
- You want to erase effects already applied in a save: use an earlier clean save if available. Removing the console or mod does not establish that saved changes have been reversed.
Hide the Script Extender debug console
A Nexus Mods guide by CyberSpektre, edited October 16, 2023, documents this setting-based procedure. The file is in the game’s bin directory; the exact location depends on where BG3 is installed.

- Open the BG3 installation folder, then open
bin. - Find
ScriptExtenderSettings.json. If present, open it in a text editor. - Change
CreateConsoletofalseand save the file. Alternatively, deleteScriptExtenderSettings.jsonif you no longer need its settings. - Launch the game again and check whether the separate console window is gone.
If the file is missing, do not create one based on guesswork: check how Script Extender is installed and whether its current configuration uses a different setup. This change concerns the debug window; it does not undo saved gameplay effects.
Turn off mods installed through BG3’s Mod Manager
For mods managed by the supported in-game Mod Manager, open the Mod Manager and uncheck the installed mods you want to disable. Larian recommends testing whether the issue persists after disabling mods, but changing the mod list can affect saves created with those mods.

In multiplayer, Larian’s official Mod Support guidance says players need the same mods at the same version. Changing one player’s mod setup can therefore prevent a shared game from matching.
Remove third-party mods from a PC installation
Larian’s Mod Issues support guidance recommends checking the installation’s Mods and Public folders when troubleshooting third-party mods, particularly after a major game update. Make a backup first and identify which mod files belong to your setup before removing anything.

Check the game installation and profile
- Use the launcher to open the game’s installation folder, then inspect its
ModsandPublicfolders for files associated with third-party mods. - Larian also identifies the profile’s
modsettings.lsxfile as a possible troubleshooting target. On Windows, the profile is under local AppData, not Documents. The launcher can open the profile folder. - Larian says
modsettings.lsxmay be deleted if you are not using a new profile for the current patch. Treat that as a targeted troubleshooting step, not a routine cleanup: first back up the file and saves, and make sure the condition applies to your setup.
Larian’s launcher may also keep an altered-files log in its cache that can help investigate mismatch warnings. Its support page frames mod troubleshooting as a way to distinguish a game issue from a mod-related one, rather than promising that removing files will repair every affected save.
Use a full-cleanup guide only when targeted removal is not enough
The community-authored BG3 Modding Community Wiki cleanup guide covers BG3 Mod Manager and Windows, including Script Extender files and game-file verification. It is a broader, more invasive route than disabling the debug window or removing one identified mod. Follow it only if you specifically need a full cleanup and understand that altering mod files can affect existing saves.

On console, do not use PC folder instructions
The PC paths above do not apply to PlayStation or Xbox. Larian’s December 4, 2024 console notice addressed a particular 100-mod-limit issue, not a universal cheat reset. It warned that choosing not to re-subscribe to mods used by a save could cause crashes or other gameplay problems. For a modded console save, use the game’s own mod controls and preserve the mods the save depends on while troubleshooting.
Can you return an altered save to a normal state?
Turning off the Script Extender console stops that window from appearing. Disabling or removing a mod can stop it from loading if the removal succeeds. The cited guidance does not document a universal way to reverse inventory, stat, quest-flag, or other changes already written to a save.

If you want a playthrough from before cheats or mods were used, load an earlier save known to predate them. If no such save exists, any repair is specific to the changes and mods involved; do not assume that removing files restores the world state. Keep a copy of the current saves before experimenting.

Reduce the risk of breaking a save
- Back up saves before changing a mod list or removing files.
- Change only the console setting if the only problem is the visible Script Extender window.
- Disable or remove only mods you have identified; avoid deleting unknown files from the game folders.
- After each change, launch the game and test a copied or otherwise backed-up save before continuing your main playthrough.
- If a save stops loading or becomes unstable, restore the previous mod setup before trying further cleanup.
