Turning off Apple Intelligence features in macOS 27 does not, by itself, delete their downloaded model files. What turning off Apple Intelligence does—and does not do
Apple’s macOS 27 guide documents controls for Siri and specific features, not a single global switch that removes Apple Intelligence models. Disabling a feature stops that feature from working, but it should not be treated as a way to reclaim the model files’ disk space. Use the setting for the feature you want to stop. Menu labels and availability can vary with language or region.

Check how much storage your Mac is using
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > General > Storage.
- Note the available storage and review the categories shown. If Apple Intelligence appears as a category, record its displayed amount as well.
- After changing settings or using a removal method, return to Storage later to check for changes. The categories and figures shown depend on your Mac and software state.
Apple’s Storage settings also include general recommendations and options such as Store in iCloud, which keeps recent iCloud Drive files in full on the Mac while storing most other iCloud Drive files in iCloud. What to weigh before removing the models
The project says its method leaves System Integrity Protection enabled and does not directly modify files under /System. It also documents a revert command that removes its profile and allows models to download again as needed. These are the project’s own descriptions; read its current instructions carefully before running anything.

If you rely on these features, disabling only the specific controls you do not want is the less disruptive choice. Treat model removal as a system-level change and use the project’s documented revert path if you later need the models again.
Why reclaimed storage may not appear right away
RemoveMacAI’s changelog says macOS can take time to delete files after the models are released, and the Storage panel may continue counting Apple Intelligence space in the meantime. A delayed or unchanged reading immediately after the operation does not establish the final amount of available space; check again later.

There is no universal Apple-published figure for model storage or guaranteed recovered space in the cited materials. MacRumors reported 20.67 GB in the Apple Intelligence storage category on one M4 Pro Mac mini running macOS 27, while its report described different measurements on other machines. A practical order of operations
- Record available storage in Apple menu > System Settings > General > Storage.
- Turn off only the Apple Intelligence features you do not want using Apple’s documented settings.
- If you still want the model files removed, decide whether the unofficial project’s compatibility, trust, and feature-loss trade-offs are acceptable.
- If you proceed, use the project’s current instructions for your exact macOS version and check Storage again later rather than expecting an immediate change.
Apple announced that its latest platform updates, including macOS 27, began rolling out on September 14, 2026. Compatibility details for third-party software can change, so the project’s current README and releases are the relevant references when deciding whether it supports your installed version.
