You can run Fluxer as an instance on a server you control, but deploying it means operating a multi-service application—not simply installing a chat app. You gain control over the instance and its data while taking responsibility for server administration and software updates. Fluxer describes browser and official mobile-app access for self-hosted instances; desktop support is forthcoming, and federation is still in progress.
What Fluxer is—and what self-hosting means
Fluxer is an open-source messaging platform for friends, groups, and communities. Its feature set includes text chat, voice and video calls, screen sharing, channels, file sharing, link previews, Markdown, code blocks, community emoji and stickers, roles, and moderation tools. You can use Fluxer’s hosted service, Fluxer.app, or operate a separate instance yourself. Fluxer’s homepage describes the platform and its features.

With self-hosting, the server running your instance is under your control rather than operated as part of Fluxer’s hosted service. Fluxer says a self-hosted instance does not phone home or depend on a centralized login system, and that Fluxer staff cannot ban users from an instance they do not run. These are statements from the project about its design, not the findings of an independent security audit. Fluxer’s self-hosting page describes the model and its trade-offs.
What you take on as the operator
Control comes with ongoing work: Fluxer says operators are responsible for server administration and keeping the software updated. Plan to manage the deployment and its data rather than treating it as a maintenance-free alternative to a hosted service.
#1 Best Overall
- Mid-level phone, ideal for professionals and managers with moderate call load
- Ergonomic design with adjustable display
- Built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi
Fluxer also says self-hosted instances do not have a Plutonium subscription and that operators can use or share the associated perks; it says uploaded files need not expire. These are current product-policy claims made by Fluxer and may change, so check the official self-hosting page for the terms that apply when you deploy.
What the deployment includes
The official self-hosting Docker Compose configuration defines a stack of interconnected services, including API and gateway components, PostgreSQL, Valkey, NATS, Meilisearch, SeaweedFS, and a media proxy. It also defines persistent volumes for data. In practical terms, deployment involves configuring and operating several supporting services as well as Fluxer itself.
Rank #2
- Supports 4 SIP accounts and 4 multi-purpose line keys
- Swappable faceplate to allow for easy logo customization
- GRP2612W includes built-in dual-band Wi-Fi support. Ethernet cord must be disconnected to enable Wi-Fi capability
- HD audio supporting all major codecs, including wideband codecs G.722 and Opus Up to 16 digital BLF Keys
- Enterprise-level protection including secure boot, dual firmware images, and encrypted data storage
The available configuration does not establish a universal minimum for CPU, memory, disk space, or bandwidth, nor does it provide a validated monthly hosting-cost estimate. Per-service memory settings in a Compose file are not a tested sizing recommendation for every instance. Choose capacity based on the current official deployment guidance and the expected workload; do not treat an arbitrary VPS specification as a guaranteed fit.
Fluxer’s 2026 roadmap says self-hosting development happens publicly on GitHub and that ready-made installation packages and documentation are available. Consult the current official instructions before setting up an instance, since deployment details can change.

Which clients work with a self-hosted instance?
Fluxer says self-hosted instances can be accessed in a web browser or through the official Fluxer mobile app. The homepage describes desktop-app support as coming soon, so do not assume a desktop client can connect to your instance today without checking the current release information.
Federation—communication between separate Fluxer servers—is also described as in progress. A self-hosted instance should therefore be treated as its own service; the available information does not establish that separate instances can already exchange messages.
Rank #4
- NOT LANDLINE PHONE: PROFESSIONAL VOIP PHONE ONLY! This device is a Voice over IP (VoIP) Phone and is NOT compatible with standard home landline/PSTN connections (RJ11). It REQUIRES a subscription to a SIP Service Provider (e.g., VoIP.ms, RingCentral, ) or an Active PBX System (e.g., 3CX, Asterisk, FreePBX) and network configuration to function.
- CRYSTAL CLEAR HD AUDIO & NOISE REDUCTION: Featuring advanced noise reduction technology and wideband codecs like G.722 and Opus, this VoIP phone ensures high-definition voice transmission. The HD handset and speaker provide stable, professional-grade communication even in busy or noisy office environments.
- ENHANCED 6-PARTY CONFERENCING: Boost team collaboration with built-in 6-party conference support, allowing real-time multi-party communication without external bridges. Designed for busy professionals, it streamlines workflows and provides an efficient collaboration experience.
- VIBRANT COLOR DISPLAY & ERGONOMIC DESIGN: Equipped with a 2.4-inch 320x240px color display with an adjustable backlight for high-resolution graphics. The versatile stand adjusts to 60° and 45° for desk use or a 15° wall-mount angle to suit any workspace layout.
- SEAMLESS CONNECTIVITY & POE SUPPORT: This T52P model supports 2 SIP accounts and features dual 100M Ethernet ports. It is powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE) for a clean setup, and unlike many competitors, it includes a dedicated 5V/1A power adapter for flexible installation.
How mobile notifications fit in
Mobile push notifications involve a relay operated by Fluxer. According to the project, Apple and Google deliver notifications to the official app using credentials Fluxer holds, and its relay enables self-hosted instances to notify phones. Fluxer says the relay cannot read notification contents and logs delivery details such as time and app. These privacy details are Fluxer’s own claims, not an independent audit; see its self-hosting explanation for the project’s account.
Is self-hosting the right choice?
Fluxer self-hosting is a fit for people or communities prepared to run and maintain the infrastructure behind their messaging service. Before choosing it, weigh these practical differences:
- Control: You operate the instance and control its data, subject to the software and your own infrastructure.
- Administration: You are responsible for server operations and keeping Fluxer updated.
- Access: Browser and official mobile-app access are described; desktop support is forthcoming.
- Connectivity: Mobile notifications use a Fluxer-operated relay, and federation remains in progress.
- Resources: The official deployment is a multi-service Compose stack, but the cited configuration does not establish a one-size-fits-all server size or cost.
If you want to avoid running servers and maintaining an application stack, Fluxer’s hosted service is the simpler operational option. If server and data control matter more and you can handle administration, self-hosting offers that control with the responsibilities described above.
