To delete a podcast download on iPhone, open Podcasts and go to Library > Downloaded. Open the show, touch and hold the episode, then tap Remove Download. For a whole show or every downloaded episode, use the bulk-removal controls in the same Downloaded view.
Delete one downloaded episode
- Open the Podcasts app and tap Library.
- Tap Downloaded, then open the show containing the episode.
- Touch and hold the episode and tap Remove Download. You can also swipe left on the episode in Downloaded and tap Remove Download.
This removes the downloaded copy from your iPhone. Apple documents the action in its iPhone User Guide.

Remove downloads for a show or for all shows
Use the bulk option that matches what you want to clear:
| Scope | Steps |
|---|---|
| One show | In Library > Downloaded, touch and hold the show, then tap Remove Downloads. |
| Every downloaded episode | In Library > Downloaded, tap More, choose Remove All Downloads, then confirm. |
These controls remove downloaded episodes; Apple lists them alongside the single-episode action in its iPhone and iPad instructions.

Keep played episodes from disappearing automatically
Apple Podcasts can automatically remove an episode 24 hours after you play it. To keep played downloads, open Settings > Apps > Podcasts and turn off Remove Played Downloads. The setting name or placement may vary by iOS version and language. See Apple’s iPhone User Guide.
Stop future automatic downloads
To prevent new episodes from downloading automatically, go to Settings > Apps > Podcasts and set Automatically Download to Off. Apple also provides show-specific automatic-download settings. Turning automatic downloads off changes future behavior; it does not delete episodes that are already downloaded. Details are in Apple’s iPhone User Guide.

Downloaded, saved, and followed are different
Remove a download, not a saved episode
Downloaded and Saved are separate Library areas. Use Remove Download to remove an episode’s downloaded copy. If you saved an episode and want to remove it from Saved, use Unsave instead. Apple documents these as separate actions in its iPhone User Guide.

When you unfollow a show that has downloaded episodes, Podcasts lets you choose whether to keep those episodes or remove them from the Library. If you keep them, existing episodes remain even though new episodes will not download. Unfollowing a show with premium content does not cancel its subscription. See Apple’s iPhone User Guide.

If a played episode disappeared
It may have been removed by the automatic cleanup setting: Apple says played episodes are deleted 24 hours after playback. To prevent this for future played downloads, turn off Remove Played Downloads in Settings > Apps > Podcasts.
