How to Delete Apple Intelligence Models from Your Mac and Check Storage

Disable Apple Intelligence on your Mac to remove its on-device models, then use System Settings > General > Storage to check the actual change in available space.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To remove Apple Intelligence’s on-device models, turn Apple Intelligence off in System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. Apple says this removes the models. Then check System Settings > General > Storage to see how your Mac’s available space changes; Apple does not promise a fixed amount of storage will be recovered.

Turn off Apple Intelligence to remove its models

  1. Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.

  2. Select Apple Intelligence & Siri in the sidebar.

  3. Turn off Apple Intelligence.

Apple documents this setting as the way to disable Apple Intelligence on a Mac, and says turning it off removes the on-device models. See Apple’s Mac guide to using Apple Intelligence and its Apple Intelligence requirements and setup information.

Check how much storage your Mac actually recovers

Before switching the feature off, open System Settings > General > Storage and note the displayed storage use. After disabling Apple Intelligence, return to the same view and check again. Apple’s storage guidance says this view is available in macOS Ventura 13 or later and updates as cleanup actions take effect. The timing and displayed change can vary, so use your Mac’s own Storage view rather than relying on a fixed estimate. See Apple’s guide to freeing storage space on Mac.

Why Apple’s 7 GB figure is not a guaranteed recovery

Apple lists 7 GB of device storage as a requirement for Apple Intelligence on its current support page, accessed in 2026. That requirement is not a promise that every Mac will reclaim exactly 7 GB when the feature is switched off. Apple’s documentation does not specify a guaranteed per-Mac recovery amount; the Storage view is the practical way to check your result.

If you want to use Apple Intelligence again

Apple’s setup information describes downloading the models when setting up Apple Intelligence. If you re-enable the feature later, expect its models may need to download again. Requirements, supported languages, and availability vary; check Apple’s current requirements page for your Mac and locale. Apple lists Mac computers with Apple silicon and macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later among the requirements.

If you still need more free space

Disabling Apple Intelligence is the direct way to remove its models. For additional storage, Apple also suggests moving large media files or libraries, such as Photos or iMovie libraries, to another storage device. That is optional general storage management, not part of the model-removal process.
