To delete music files from a Windows PC, remove the files in File Explorer and then empty the Recycle Bin. If you only want songs gone from a music app’s library, use that app’s library controls instead: removing a listing does not always delete the audio file from your computer.
First decide what “delete tracks” means
There are two different targets: the audio files stored on your PC, and the entries displayed in a music app. Deleting files affects local storage. Removing a library entry changes what the app shows, but may leave the file intact or available on other devices.

Delete music files from Windows 11 or Windows 10

Open a likely folder and verify that its contents are the tracks you mean to remove. If your goal is to find large files, switch to View > Details and sort by Size. Do not select a whole folder or drive until you have checked what else it contains.

Select only the music files you want to delete, then choose Delete from File Explorer. If you want to keep the tracks while freeing space on the PC, copy or move them to external storage before deleting the PC copies.

When you are sure you no longer need the files, empty the Recycle Bin. Microsoft advises: “If you delete any files, remember to empty the Recycle Bin to completely remove them from your device and free up space.” Until then, the files may still be recoverable from the bin and may not have freed their storage space.

Remove tracks from Apple Music for Windows
Apple Music has a separate library-removal action, with a choice that determines whether the local file stays on the computer. In the Windows app, select Songs, open the item’s More menu, and choose Delete from Library. Apple documents these choices in its Apple Music for Windows guide:

- Move to Trash: removes the song from the library and moves its file to the computer’s Trash/Recycle Bin. Empty the Recycle Bin to complete local removal and reclaim the space.
Apple notes that when a music library is accessed on multiple devices, deleted songs may remain available on those devices. The documented control is a per-item menu; don’t assume a particular bulk-selection shortcut will work in every version or selection context.

Remove Spotify Local Files without confusing them with Spotify’s library
Spotify Desktop can display audio files from folders you enable under Settings > Library > Show Local Files. These are files stored on your device, not necessarily tracks hosted by Spotify. To delete the underlying audio, use File Explorer to remove it from the source folder and empty the Recycle Bin if you want to reclaim the space. Spotify’s Local Files support page also recommends removing local files from playlists when troubleshooting their display.
Removing a saved item from a Spotify account library is a separate operation from deleting a PC file. Spotify’s developer API treats saved-library removal as an account-library action, not a Windows storage command; its saved-items removal reference allows at most 40 URIs per request. That API limit is relevant to developers using the API, not a required step for clearing music files from a PC.

When a music folder is not the same as a music library
A Windows media library is a collection of folders, not proof that every listed item is stored in one location. Microsoft Learn explains that media may be outside the library folders, and that the Music folder can contain songs, podcasts, and audiobooks: Working with Libraries in Windows. Removing a folder from a library or clearing a library view should not be treated as deleting files from disk.
If you want to remove every music file
There is no universal Windows “delete all tracks” button. Check the folders and drives where you store music, confirm each selection, and delete only the files you intend to remove. A broad selection can include recordings or other audio you may want to keep. If you only want to clear one app’s view, use its library controls instead of deleting files from storage.
