The Galaxy S26+ is worth paying more for if you want its larger, higher-resolution screen and bigger battery. The S26 Ultra is worth the premium if you will use its S Pen, extra 5x telephoto camera, longer zoom range or built-in Privacy Display. If those specific upgrades do not matter to you, the standard S26—or keeping your current phone—may be the better value. Compare live prices for the same storage tier before deciding.
What do the S26, S26+ and Ultra cost?
For the US market, Samsung’s February 25, 2026 launch announcement set starting prices at $899.99 for the Galaxy S26, $1,099.99 for the S26+ and $1,299.99 for the S26 Ultra. Those are launch prices, not a guaranteed current price. Samsung Newsroom US also listed 256GB and 512GB options for the S26 and S26+, and 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options for the Ultra.

What does the extra money buy?
The comparison below uses Samsung Ireland’s specifications, last updated March 11, 2026. Samsung cautions that models can vary by country, so check the specifications for your market before buying. Samsung’s Ireland comparison lists the following:
| Model | Screen and weight | Typical battery capacity | Rear cameras and input |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | 6.3-inch FHD+, 120Hz; 167g | 4,300mAh | 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto; up to 30x digital zoom |
| Galaxy S26+ | 6.7-inch QHD+, 120Hz; 190g | 4,900mAh | Similar listed arrangement to S26: 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto; up to 30x digital zoom |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | 6.9-inch QHD+, 120Hz; 214g | 5,000mAh | 200MP wide, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x and 50MP 5x telephoto; up to 100x digital zoom; S Pen support |
The Ireland comparison lists Exynos 2600 for the S26 and S26+ and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy for the Ultra. That is regional information; do not assume every country gets the same chip configuration.

Should you get the S26 or S26+?
Choose the S26 for a smaller phone and lower starting cost
The standard S26 is the straightforward choice if you value a more compact 6.3-inch display and do not need the Plus or Ultra’s distinguishing features. In Samsung Ireland’s comparison, its listed rear-camera arrangement is similar to the S26+; the main listed Plus differences are a larger, higher-resolution screen and a larger battery.

The S26+ gives you a 6.7-inch QHD+ display and a 4,900mAh typical-capacity battery, compared with the S26’s 6.3-inch FHD+ screen and 4,300mAh battery in that regional comparison. That makes the upgrade easier to justify if you want more screen space or value the larger stated battery capacity. Capacity alone does not establish how long either model lasts in everyday use.

The trade-off is size and weight: the comparison lists the Plus at 190g versus 167g for the S26. If a compact handset matters more to you than the larger screen and battery, the S26 may be the better fit.
Is the Galaxy S26 Ultra worth the extra money?
Consider the Ultra when you can name a feature you will use, rather than treating the top model as automatically better value:
Rank #4
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist¹ with Galaxy AI.² Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping

- FIT EVERYONE IN THE SHOT: Group selfies are easier on your Samsung phone with a wider front camera⁴ that captures more of the scene, so no one gets left out of the moment
- S Pen: The Ultra supports S Pen input. It is a meaningful differentiator if you want to write or interact with the phone using the pen.
- More camera reach: Samsung’s comparison lists a 50MP 5x telephoto camera alongside a 10MP 3x telephoto, and up to 100x digital zoom. The S26 and S26+ list a 3x telephoto and up to 30x digital zoom. These specifications describe hardware and stated zoom ranges, not independently tested image quality.
- Largest screen: At 6.9 inches, the Ultra is the largest of these models in Samsung’s Ireland comparison. It is also listed at 214g, so the larger display comes with a heavier handset.
- Privacy Display: Samsung says the Ultra uniquely has a built-in Privacy Display that reduces visibility from side angles. Samsung’s US announcement calls it first-of-its-kind for mobile phones; that vendor description is not a guarantee that every bystander will be unable to see screen content.
If none of those features fits how you use a phone, the Ultra’s higher price is difficult to justify on the evidence here. Samsung’s US launch announcement also states that the Ultra supports Super-Fast Charging 3.0 and can reach up to 75% charge in around 30 minutes; the power adapter is sold separately. That figure applies to the Ultra and should not be generalized to the other models.
How should you compare the actual prices?
- Pick the model first. Decide whether you need the S26’s compact size, the Plus’s larger screen and battery, or an Ultra-specific feature.
- Match storage. A price gap may reflect capacity as well as model. Samsung’s US launch options were 256GB and 512GB for the S26 and S26+, and up to 1TB for the Ultra; regional availability can differ.
- Compare checkout totals. Check the same storage tier, seller, color and purchase method. Include taxes and any required carrier plan or financing terms in your comparison.
- Count only a confirmed trade-in value. Check your device’s eligibility, condition requirements and the credit offered for your specific transaction. Do not treat the advertised maximum as your guaranteed discount.
- Decide whether the feature is worth the net difference. If you would not use the upgrade, its value to you is effectively zero, regardless of the model’s position in the lineup.
Should you upgrade from your current Galaxy phone?
Do not upgrade solely because a new model is available. Start with a specific shortcoming in your current phone—such as wanting a larger screen, S Pen input or the Ultra’s camera configuration—and check whether the model that solves it is worth its net price to you. If your current device still meets your needs, keeping it avoids spending money on features you may not use.

Samsung announced seven years of security updates for the S26 series. That support commitment can help you think about the purchase over a longer period, but it does not say how long the battery will remain healthy or guarantee that every feature will remain unchanged. Samsung’s announced performance figures for the S26 Ultra—up to 19% CPU performance increase, 39% NPU improvement and 24% GPU boost—are Samsung’s comparisons against the prior-generation context in its February 25, 2026 announcement, not independent benchmark results.
