To debloat Windows 11 or Windows 10, start by uninstalling apps you recognize and do not use, then disable unnecessary startup apps. Change other settings only when you understand their purpose. These built-in controls are safer and easier to reverse than bulk-removal scripts; debloating is not a substitute for security updates and does not guarantee a faster PC.
What “debloating” Windows means
Debloating is a personal cleanup choice, not a single Windows feature. It can mean removing apps you do not use, stopping apps from opening automatically, or changing a specific setting you find unnecessary. Those are separate tasks: disabling startup does not uninstall an app, and removing apps does not resolve every performance, privacy, or security concern.

Begin with the nuisance you can identify. If an app merely opens at sign-in, disable its startup entry rather than removing it. If you do not want the app at all, uninstall it. If you are troubleshooting a conflict, use a diagnostic method instead of permanently disabling services at random.
Uninstall apps you recognize and do not need
Use Windows’ built-in app list to remove ordinary apps. Microsoft’s app removal guidance covers the standard uninstall flow. The exact Settings labels can vary by Windows version, but the path is typically Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows 11 or Settings > Apps > Apps & features in Windows 10.

- 1.1 GHz (boost up to 2.4GHz) Intel Celeron N5030 Quad-Core
- Open the app list in Settings and find an app you recognize.
- Select its menu or entry, choose Uninstall, and confirm if prompted.
- Restart only if Windows or the app’s uninstaller requests it, then check that the features you rely on still work.
Do not remove an unfamiliar item just because its name looks technical. It may be a driver component, hardware utility, or support software for something you use. If your concern is malware, uninstalling an app is not a substitute for scanning: Microsoft directs users to Windows Security for malware concerns.
Be cautious with built-in and Store apps
If a built-in or Microsoft Store app is broken, or you need to repair an app you removed, use Microsoft’s Modern, Inbox, and Microsoft Store Apps troubleshooting guidance. It includes technical package-management approaches, including PowerShell. These require understanding which package is involved and how to recover it; they are not a reason to run a bulk “remove everything” command.
Stop unwanted apps from opening at sign-in
Startup controls prevent an app from launching automatically without uninstalling it. Microsoft documents startup management for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 in Configure Startup applications in Windows.

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Open Settings > Apps > Startup and review the listed apps. You can also use Task Manager > Startup apps (Windows 11) or Task Manager > Startup (Windows 10).
- Turn off or disable only apps you recognize and do not need to open automatically.
- Leave security software, hardware utilities, and tools you rely on enabled unless you understand what disabling them changes.
If you later want an app to launch at sign-in again, return to the same list and re-enable it. Startup management is generally easier to undo than removing app packages or changing services.
Troubleshoot services with a clean boot—not permanent blanket disabling
If you suspect a background service or startup program is causing a conflict, Microsoft’s clean boot procedure is a diagnostic test. It temporarily disables selected non-Microsoft services and startup items so you can isolate a problem. It does not mean every non-Microsoft service is unnecessary.
- Follow Microsoft’s clean boot instructions for your Windows version and select the option to hide Microsoft services before changing the remaining services.
- Temporarily disable the listed non-Microsoft services and startup items as directed, then restart and test whether the problem remains.
- Re-enable items systematically, restarting and testing between changes, to identify the item associated with the issue.
- Restore the normal startup configuration and re-enable services or apps you need after testing.
Because this is a troubleshooting workflow, use it to find a particular cause—not as a permanent “debloat” setting.

Should you use a third-party debloat tool?
For routine cleanup, Windows’ own app and startup controls are the better starting point. A utility can combine several kinds of changes, which is convenient but makes it more important to understand each selection before applying it.
WinUtil, maintained by Chris Titus Tech, describes itself as a tool for installing programs, applying Windows tweaks, troubleshooting configuration, and configuring updates. Its official GitHub repository instructs users to launch PowerShell or Terminal as administrator. Administrator access can make system-level changes, so review the project’s current options and documentation before acting. Its FAQ says Windows 10 is no longer supported by WinUtil; project scope and options may change.
- Read what each selected option changes; avoid blanket presets if you cannot explain their effects.
- Prefer targeted changes and keep a backup or other recovery option before system-level modifications.
- Do not disable Windows Update, security features, or services as a speed or privacy shortcut.
- Use the project’s official documentation to check current compatibility and behavior for your Windows release.
The available tool descriptions do not establish that any third-party debloater is universally safe or that it produces a measured speed increase.

Keep Windows 10 support in view
Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. The operating system continues to function, but ordinary technical assistance, feature updates, and security updates have ended unless a device is covered by an applicable program. Microsoft recommends moving to a supported version of Windows or using Extended Security Updates (ESU) if eligible.
Microsoft says consumer ESU can provide security updates for enrolled Windows 10 devices through October 12, 2027. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support guidance and Windows 10 ESU program details for current eligibility and enrollment information. Eligibility for Windows 11 depends on the device; check Microsoft’s requirements rather than assuming an upgrade is available.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRemoving apps or changing startup behavior cannot restore Windows 10 support or make an unsupported system safe. Microsoft 365 app security updates on Windows 10 are a separate matter from operating-system updates: Microsoft’s end-of-support guidance states they continue through October 10, 2028.
What to expect after debloating
The practical result depends on your device, Windows release, workload, installed apps, and the changes you make. The cited guidance explains how to manage apps, startup entries, and troubleshooting; it does not provide controlled before-and-after measurements for an individual PC. Treat cleanup as a way to remove specific annoyances or unwanted behavior, not as a guaranteed speed, memory, battery-life, or privacy improvement.
