To make your screen flash when Windows plays an audio notification, open Settings > Accessibility > Audio, then choose how much of the screen should flash under Flash my screen during audio notifications. Press Windows key + U to open Accessibility settings directly.
Turn on visual flashes for audio notifications
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Audio. Or press Windows key + U to open Accessibility settings, then select Audio under Hearing.
- Expand Flash my screen during audio notifications.
- Choose the screen area you want Windows to flash.
These are Windows 11 instructions. Microsoft documents the steps in its guide to text or visual alternatives to sounds.

Choose how much of the screen flashes
Windows offers three scopes. Microsoft lists the choices but does not rank them or recommend one for a particular user; select the one that is easiest for you to notice without being more disruptive than you want.

Screen flashes versus notification banners
This setting responds to audio notifications by flashing a chosen screen area. If you meant the pop-up banners that appear for notifications, those are configured separately under Settings > System > Notifications. Microsoft’s Windows notifications guide covers banners and app-specific notification controls.
Why older instructions may look different
Windows 10 uses the older path Settings > Ease of Access > Audio and labels its dropdown Show audio alerts visually. Those labels belong to Windows 10, not the Windows 11 Accessibility menu.
