A Game Hub is different: it gathers information about one game, such as community broadcasts and new content. Sony describes Game Hubs as evolving over a game’s lifecycle, but does not document a setting for rearranging their contents. The steps below explain what you can customize—and which nearby PS5 features organize other parts of the interface. If you searched “How to customize the PS5 home screen and game hub,” the key distinction is that the Welcome Hub is the documented customizable dashboard; the Game Hub is a game-specific information space.
Welcome Hub and Game Hub: what can you customize?
The Welcome Hub is the PS5 home-screen area Sony documents for personal layout changes. Its widgets can be turned on or off, moved, resized, and arranged through a preset or a custom preset. You can also choose a background, change some hub settings, and enable Large Layout. Widget availability can vary by region. See PlayStation Support’s Welcome Hub instructions for the documented controls.

A Game Hub belongs to an individual game. Sony says each game has a hub that brings together related information, including community broadcasts and new game content, and describes it as a space that evolves during the game’s lifecycle. That feature description does not establish that players can rearrange a Game Hub’s layout. If you want to change the dashboard itself, use the Welcome Hub instead. Sony’s overview is on its PS5 features page.
That distinction matters because “home screen” and “game page” can sound like two versions of the same menu. They are separate interface areas with different purposes: the Welcome Hub is where Sony documents widget, background, preset, and hub-setting choices, while a Game Hub collects information tied to a particular title. You can personalize the former; Sony’s feature overview describes the latter’s content and evolution, not a user-controlled layout editor.

| Area | What it is for | What the documented controls let you change |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome Hub | Personalized area on the PS5 home screen | Widgets, widget placement and size, presets, background, and selected hub settings |
| Game Hub | Information related to one game | Sony describes the content it collects and how it evolves; user layout controls are not established in the cited overview |
| Game Library Gamelists | Grouping games in your collection | Create and manage lists of games; this does not change either hub’s layout |
| Control Center | Quick access to selected controls while playing | Move icons or hide some of them; this does not customize the home-screen Welcome Hub |
Think of the options by the problem you want to solve. For a dashboard that shows the widgets you care about, edit the Welcome Hub. For a different visual treatment, change its background or select a console appearance design. For grouping titles in your collection, create a Gamelist. For a shortcut arrangement during play, adjust the Control Center. None of those adjacent features is a documented way to rearrange a Game Hub.
Customize the Welcome Hub
Open the Welcome Hub from the PS5 home screen, then use its editing controls to make a layout that suits the information you want to see. The control names and path below are Sony’s documented instructions; menu labels can vary with system updates. The edit options address different parts of the layout: toggling determines whether a widget is included, moving changes its position, and resizing changes its footprint.
Turn widgets on or off
- On the PS5 home screen, open Welcome Hub.
- Select Edit Widgets.
- Highlight a widget and press X to toggle it on or off.
Use this first to remove widgets you do not want or bring available ones into the hub. The available selection is subject to region, so an option shown in another region may not appear on your console. If a particular widget is missing from the editor, regional availability is the qualification Sony gives; its absence alone does not establish that the console is malfunctioning.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWidget selection is also a straightforward way to simplify the screen. Start by deciding what information you want to see at a glance, then switch off widgets that do not serve that purpose. You can revisit Edit Widgets later and toggle them again, rather than treating the first arrangement as permanent. The documented steps do not specify a required widget combination, so choose from the options actually shown on your console.
Move and resize widgets
- To move a widget, choose it and press Square.
- Navigate to its new position with the directional buttons, then press X to confirm.
- To resize a widget, select it and press L1 or R1.
Placement changes where a widget appears; resizing changes its footprint. If you want a more information-dense display rather than adjusting each widget, consider the separate Large Layout setting described below.
A useful sequence is to decide which widgets belong on the screen before spending time arranging them. Turn unwanted items off, move the remaining widgets into the order you prefer, and then use L1 or R1 to adjust their size. After any change, check the overall balance: a larger widget occupies more of the layout, while a moved widget changes where it appears. The controls Sony documents are the directional buttons, Square, X, L1, and R1; they do not imply that a Game Hub has the same editing controls.

Choose a preset or build your own
Select Change Preset to use a ready-made layout. Choose Create Preset to make a custom arrangement. A preset is the quicker choice if you want a prepared layout; a custom preset gives you control over which widgets are shown and how they are arranged.
The difference is the degree of layout control, not a change to what a Game Hub is. A ready-made preset is a convenient starting point if you want to adopt a prepared arrangement rather than build one. A custom preset is the documented route when you want to tailor the widget selection and arrangement. If the goal is simply to make the screen feel less busy, you can also turn off widgets you do not want; if the goal is to shape the arrangement, create a custom preset and use the move and resize controls.
Set the background
- In the Welcome Hub, select Change Background.
- Choose an image source from the From PlayStation, Games, or Media Gallery tab.
- Choose Slideshow to rotate through an album, or Showcase to display the full background while the console is idle.
The source tabs let you select the kind of imagery; slideshow and Showcase determine how the selected background is displayed. Use a slideshow when you want images to rotate, or Showcase when you prefer the background to fill the screen during idle time.
These are two separate choices: first choose the source of the image, then choose the presentation mode. From PlayStation and Games offer PlayStation- or game-related imagery, while Media Gallery is another documented source. Slideshow is the option for rotation through an album; Showcase is the option for displaying the full background while the console is idle. If you want a single selected image rather than rotation, the slideshow description is a useful distinction when choosing a mode.
Adjust hub settings and information density
Open the Welcome Hub settings to follow or unfollow games, choose the position of temporary widgets, or enable Large Layout. These settings affect what appears in the Welcome Hub and how it is presented; they do not provide controls for rearranging a game’s separate Game Hub.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use the setting that corresponds to the change you want. Following or unfollowing games changes that preference within the Welcome Hub; the temporary-widget option controls where those widgets appear; and Large Layout changes the layout presentation. The documented choices let you adjust information density without treating every widget as a separate sizing task. If you need a particular widget, its availability still depends on region.

For a quick setup, open the Welcome Hub, remove widgets you do not want, select a preset or create a custom one, and then choose a background source and display mode. You can return to the hub settings for followed games, temporary-widget position, or Large Layout. This approach keeps the changes in the area Sony documents for personalization rather than confusing them with game-specific content.
Choose a PS5 generation-inspired appearance
Sony documents a separate appearance setting for console-generation design choices. On the console, go to Settings > System > Appearance > Appearance and Sound, then choose a design. This is distinct from changing Welcome Hub widgets or its background: use it for the documented system appearance options, and the Welcome Hub editor for its personal layout.
In other words, a background change is a Welcome Hub choice, while the appearance-and-sound menu is the documented path for generation-inspired design options. If your aim is to change the hub’s content or arrangement, stay in the Welcome Hub controls. If your aim is to choose among the system’s documented design options, use the Settings path above. Sony’s feature page notes that designs and specifications can change, and menu labels may vary as the system is updated.
Organize your game collection with Gamelists
Gamelists help organize games in Your Collection; they are not a way to change the Welcome Hub or a Game Hub. Sony’s Gamelist support guide documents this path:
- From Games home, select Game Library > Your Collection > Create Gamelist.
- Choose the games for the list and follow the prompts. The list appears at the top of Your Collection.
- To add games later, open the list and select Add More to Gamelist, or highlight a game and choose Options > Add to Gamelist.
- To remove a game, open the list, highlight the game, press Options, and select Remove from Gamelist.
- To rename or delete a list, highlight the list and use Options.
A Gamelist is useful when the task is to group games in your library, rather than alter what the home screen displays. After creation, the list appears at the top of Your Collection, and you can add games either from inside the list or by highlighting a game and using its Options menu. Removing a title from a list is also separate from deleting the list itself: open the list, highlight the title, and choose Remove from Gamelist. To edit the list’s name or delete the list, highlight the list and use Options.
Use the right feature for the right kind of organization. A Gamelist groups games in Your Collection; it does not add a custom category to the Welcome Hub or change a title’s Game Hub. If the goal is to sort the library, follow the Gamelist steps. If the goal is to personalize the dashboard, return to Edit Widgets or the Welcome Hub’s background and settings controls.

Rearrange the Control Center separately
The Control Center appears when you press the PS button and provides quick access while playing. To change its icon order, follow Sony’s Control Center instructions:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Press the PS button.
- Highlight an icon and press Options.
- Select the icon, move it to the position you want, and press X to place it.
- To hide an icon, move it to Hidden Controls. Sony notes that some icons cannot be hidden.
This changes quick-access controls, not the home-screen layout. If your goal is a more personal dashboard, make changes in the Welcome Hub; if you want the game collection grouped, use Gamelists.
The distinction is where the change applies. Control Center icons are shortcuts available while playing, so changing their order does not rearrange the Welcome Hub’s widgets. You can move icons that Sony allows to be moved and place some in Hidden Controls, but some icons cannot be hidden. If an icon remains visible, that limitation is documented; it is not evidence that the Welcome Hub controls have failed.
If a control or widget is missing
- A widget is not listed: Availability can vary by region, so its absence does not necessarily indicate a console problem.
- A menu label differs: Sony notes that menu names may change with system updates; look for the corresponding Welcome Hub editing or settings option.
- You cannot rearrange a Game Hub: Sony’s published description explains what Game Hubs collect, but does not document user layout controls. Use Welcome Hub customization for the documented dashboard changes.
- A Control Center icon will not hide: Some icons cannot be moved to Hidden Controls, according to Sony’s support instructions.
Keep the scope of each feature in mind when troubleshooting. A missing Welcome Hub widget may reflect regional availability. A changed menu name may reflect a system update. A Game Hub that does not offer a layout editor is consistent with Sony’s published description, which explains its information and lifecycle but does not set out user rearrangement steps. A Control Center icon that cannot be hidden is also an expressly noted limitation.
For the documented Welcome Hub setup, Sony’s support instructions are the reference for widget editing, presets, backgrounds, settings, and appearance choices. Sony’s PS5 features page describes Game Hubs as collecting game-related information, including community broadcasts and new content, in a space that evolves over a game’s lifecycle. The two descriptions answer different questions: how to personalize the dashboard, and what information a game’s hub brings together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I customize a PS5 Game Hub?
Sony describes Game Hubs as spaces for information about an individual game, including community broadcasts and new content, and says they evolve over the game’s lifecycle. Its overview does not document controls for rearranging a Game Hub’s contents. For documented home-screen customization, use the Welcome Hub.

Can I rearrange or hide Control Center icons?
Press the PS button, highlight an icon, and press Options. Select and move the icon, then press X to place it. To hide an eligible icon, move it to Hidden Controls. Sony notes that some icons cannot be hidden. This changes quick-access controls, not the Welcome Hub.
Where are the PS5 generation-inspired appearance options?
Go to Settings > System > Appearance > Appearance and Sound, then choose a design. This is separate from changing the Welcome Hub’s widgets or background.
The Bottom Line
To personalize the PS5 home screen, edit the Welcome Hub: toggle, move, and resize widgets; choose a preset or create a custom one; select a background and display mode; and adjust hub settings such as Large Layout. A Game Hub is a separate, game-specific information space, and Sony’s feature description does not document a way to rearrange its layout. Use Gamelists to group games in Your Collection and Control Center settings to organize eligible quick-access icons while playing.
