Most Microsoft Edge customizations start at Settings and more (…) > Settings. From there, use Appearance for visual and toolbar choices, and Start, home, and new tab page to control what appears when you open the browser. Privacy, extensions, accessibility, language, and sync have their own controls.
Change Edge’s appearance
Open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Appearance. Depending on your Edge version, you may find controls for the theme, page zoom, toolbar layout and buttons, and font size or type.

Choose a light or dark theme, or follow the system theme if that option is available. Adjust page zoom or font size to make pages easier to read, and use toolbar settings to show or hide available buttons. The exact controls can vary by version, so check the options displayed in your installation.

Go to Settings > Start, home, and new tab page to choose what Edge displays when it starts. To add a Home button, turn on Show home button, then choose whether it opens the new-tab page or a custom URL. Microsoft’s customization guide describes these controls: Customize Microsoft Edge settings.

Personalize the new-tab page
Open a new tab and select its page-settings control. Available options can include the page layout, background image, quick links, and content preferences. Where feed-interest controls are available, use them to adjust the topics shown. These new-tab options are separate from the startup and Home button settings.
Choose a tracking-prevention level
Find the controls at Settings > Privacy, search, and services. Edge offers three levels, with different trade-offs among tracker blocking, site compatibility, and personalization.

Microsoft describes the levels and their effects in Learn about tracking prevention in Microsoft Edge. If a trusted site needs trackers to work, you can add an exception. That exception allows all trackers on that site, including potentially harmful ones, so use it only when necessary.

- Open Extensions, or choose Settings and more > Extensions.
- Select Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge to browse Edge add-ons. To install a compatible extension from the Chrome Web Store, allow extensions from other stores if Edge prompts you.
- Before installing, review the permissions it requests and consider whether they fit the extension’s purpose.
- To turn one off or remove it, open Manage extensions, find the extension, and choose the available disable or remove control.

Adjust accessibility and reading options
Edge supports several ways to change how pages are presented or navigated. Depending on your device and setup, useful options include Windows high-contrast themes and text scaling, captions, keyboard navigation, shortcut tooltips, and caret browsing. Microsoft also documents screen-reader compatibility with Narrator, JAWS, and NVDA in its accessibility guidance.

Set language preferences and sync
Edge includes preferred-language and translation features. Its available overview also describes syncing browser information across devices after you sign in with the same Microsoft account. To find the current controls, open Settings and inspect the language and profile or sync sections; labels and individual options may vary by version and device. When an option is missing or named differently
Edge receives interface updates gradually, and some settings differ by version or platform. If a menu path does not match what you see, start again from Settings and more (…) > Settings, look for the closest named section, and check that Edge is up to date.
