Homepage, startup page, and New Tab page: what’s the difference?
The homepage is the page Chrome opens when you select the Home button. The startup page is what appears when Chrome launches. The New Tab page appears when you open a new tab and is where desktop users customize shortcuts and appearance. How do I add or remove shortcuts on Chrome’s New Tab page?
On a computer, open a new tab and select Customize Chrome. In the Shortcuts section, choose how shortcuts appear:

- Most visited sites: let Chrome show frequently visited sites.
- Show shortcuts off: hide the shortcut tiles.
To change one shortcut, open its menu and select the option to edit or remove it. The Customize Chrome panel also includes theme and background options, including the ability to upload a background image. Google says New Tab customization requires you to be signed in to a Google Account and use Google as the default search engine; availability can depend on the search engine. Google Chrome Help

How do I change Chrome’s startup page?
On a computer, open Chrome’s menu, select Settings, then choose On startup. Pick the behavior that fits how you use the browser:

How do I show the Home button in Chrome?
On a computer, open Settings > Appearance and turn on Show Home button. Choose whether the button opens the New Tab page or a custom page. This setting controls the Home button’s destination; it does not automatically change what Chrome opens at startup. Google Chrome Help
How do I change the homepage or shortcuts on Android?
To set the homepage in Chrome for Android, open Chrome menu > Settings > Advanced > Homepage, then choose Chrome’s homepage or enter a custom page. Android’s New Tab page settings separately provide shortcut and card controls. You can add, pin, edit, rearrange, and remove custom shortcuts. Can I set a Chrome homepage on iPhone or iPad?
No. Google’s guidance says a Chrome homepage can be set on a computer or Android device, not in Chrome for iPhone or iPad. Google Chrome Help

If you use a Chromebook managed by work or school, an administrator may control its homepage and startup pages. In that case, the settings may not be available for you to change; contact the administrator if you need a different configuration. Google Chrome Help
