PageCrawl.io can capture and help you review full-page screenshots while monitoring a website, but its documented features do not create or assign WordPress thumbnails. To make a WordPress thumbnail, first decide whether you need a featured image, an image size generated from an upload, or a social-sharing preview. For a featured image, upload or choose an image in WordPress and assign it in the editor; use PageCrawl only if a screenshot is the image you want to use.
What “thumbnail” means in WordPress
The word can refer to three different outcomes, and the right steps depend on which one you need:

- A generated image size: WordPress can create smaller image versions from an uploaded original. The dimensions and crop are configurable in Media settings.
- A featured image: An image assigned to a post or page. The theme decides whether and how it appears in listings or page layouts.
- A social-sharing preview: The image shown when a page is shared on social platforms. A featured image does not guarantee that a sharing card uses the same image.
WordPress documents the upload and image-size workflow in its Use Images guide and Media settings documentation. Its Page/Post Settings sidebar guide explains the separate featured-image setting.

PageCrawl.io is a website change-monitoring service: it checks selected pages on a schedule, compares captures with earlier versions, and can provide full-page screenshots for review. That can be useful when you want to inspect a page capture or use a screenshot as the source image.
The reviewed PageCrawl information does not document a WordPress thumbnail generator, a direct WordPress publishing step, or automatic assignment of a screenshot as a featured image. Treat capture and review as separate from preparing, uploading, and assigning the image in WordPress. PageCrawl’s plans and quotas can change; consult its pricing page and features help page for current details.
Create and assign a featured image in WordPress
- Choose the image you need. Use an existing image, upload a prepared graphic, or capture a screenshot if a screenshot is specifically what you want displayed.
- Prepare it for its destination. Match its dimensions and crop to the theme’s layout and the place it will appear. WordPress advises considering the content area and notes that larger file sizes can slow page loading; see its image size and quality guidance. There is no single featured-image size established for every theme or Indian WordPress site.
- Upload or select the image. In the post or page editor, add an image or select one from the Media Library. You can also upload images directly to the Media Library; WordPress describes both approaches in Use Images.
- Assign it as the featured image. Open the Page/Post settings sidebar, choose Set featured image, then select an image from the Media Library or upload one and confirm. The theme controls where and how that image is displayed.
- Preview the result. Check the published page and the relevant listing or template, because theme layouts can crop or display the image differently from the editor preview.
Use PageCrawl when the screenshot itself is the image
If you want a screenshot rather than a designed or photographic image, use PageCrawl’s monitoring and screenshot-review workflow to capture and inspect the page. Then obtain or prepare the image you intend to use, upload it to WordPress, and assign it through the featured-image control above. PageCrawl is not documented as performing those WordPress upload and assignment steps.

For a social-sharing preview, verify the social metadata separately. A theme’s featured-image display and the image selected for an Open Graph preview are related but not interchangeable.
Choose the right route
| Route | Best for | Automation | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress Media Library and featured image | An editor has an image and wants the theme to show it | Image choice is manual; WordPress creates image sizes after upload | Theme controls featured-image display; social preview must be checked separately. |
| PageCrawl screenshot capture and review | Monitoring page changes and reviewing a full-page capture | Scheduled checks and captures according to the selected plan | Reviewed documentation does not establish direct thumbnail generation or WordPress publishing. |
| Dedicated screenshot-to-Open-Graph plugin | Generating social-sharing preview images from page screenshots | Depends on plugin configuration and plan | Separate service, terms, and possible premium limits apply. |
Automate social previews with a dedicated plugin
If your goal is an automatically generated screenshot for social sharing, the WordPress.org listing for PlugUpp Dynamic OG Image Generator describes screenshot-based Open Graph images, a standard 1200×630 screenshot size, and controls for choosing an automatic screenshot, featured image, or custom image source. The listing describes Premium Media Library integration that can optionally set a generated capture as the featured image.

This is a separate plugin and external capture service, not a PageCrawl integration. Review the plugin’s current terms, plan limits, and privacy implications before enabling it. Its listing describes country routing as a Premium feature; confirm current availability if you need screenshots of a region-specific or IP-dependent page. No India-specific WordPress thumbnail size or setup requirement is established by the cited WordPress guidance.

For a one-request screenshot API alternative, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from a URL. Its clean-shot workflow accepts consent banners and removes supported cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools for screenshots, page information, and PDF capture. The API can capture a full page or a selected element, and supports image formats including PNG, JPEG, and WebP.
