To make separate YouTube live streams for different playlist categories, create a separate scheduled live event for each broadcast in YouTube Studio. A YouTube playlist is a collection of uploaded videos; scheduling an event does not make YouTube play that playlist automatically. For playlist-style continuous playback, send the intended program to the event through an encoder—or use a cloud service that loops uploaded videos to YouTube.

Decide whether you need distinct event pages, continuous playback, different privacy settings, or different promotion schedules. If you only need a separate event for each category, Studio’s scheduler is enough. If the videos themselves need to play as the live program, arrange a feed through an encoder or a cloud playlist service.

Create a separate scheduled event for each category
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Choose Create new for a distinct category or event. Choose Reuse settings only when the previous event’s metadata and stream setup are a suitable starting point.
- Enter a title and description that accurately identify the event and its intended content category. Set the date and time, audience, and privacy. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted privacy settings; scheduled public streams may appear as upcoming, where viewers can select Notify me. See YouTube’s live stream settings.
- If the event will use an encoder, copy the stream URL and stream key from Studio into the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube Help describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key as a credential and do not share it publicly. The key connects the encoder’s feed to the event; it does not select or start a playlist.
- For a scheduled encoder stream, start the encoder feed and wait for its preview to appear in Live Control Room. Select Go live when the preview and event details are correct.
- Repeat for each distinct event. For a multi-category setup, keep an operational mapping of category, scheduled event, encoder scene or media source, and stream key. This is a practical tracking method, not a YouTube feature.
When reusing settings, review the copied details before each broadcast. Reuse can carry over metadata, settings, and the stream key, so a title, description, privacy choice, or feed intended for one category may otherwise be carried into another event. YouTube documents this behavior in its stream settings guidance.

Make a playlist-like program appear as a live broadcast
A scheduled event provides the destination and watch page. To make pre-recorded videos play as its live program, you need a source that sends the video and audio feed to that event. With an encoder, select and configure the media program in the encoder, then connect it to the event using the stream URL and key. YouTube’s documentation explains the event and encoder connection, but does not establish that Studio can automatically play a selected playlist as a live stream.

For a continuous program, prepare the videos and playback order before connecting the feed. Confirm that the event’s title and description match what viewers will actually see, and check the preview before selecting Go live. Create separate events and select the intended program for each category rather than assuming that an event title or playlist name determines what plays.
Manage privacy, archives, and audience handoffs
- Privacy and discovery: Choose public, private, or unlisted according to the intended audience. A scheduled stream may be shown as upcoming to subscribers, who can opt into a notification; see YouTube’s encoder live-stream guide.
- Archives: YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the event afterward in Studio’s Live area. The threshold is specific to that guidance; do not assume that a longer broadcast will be archived the same way.
- Live Redirect: If you want to send viewers to another event or Premiere after a stream ends, YouTube Live Redirect is a separate handoff feature, not a way to create or play playlist streams. The sending creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes; redirecting to another channel’s stream requires that channel’s permission. See YouTube’s Live Redirect requirements.
Troubleshoot common setup mistakes
- The scheduled event exists, but the playlist is not playing: Scheduling makes an event page; it does not itself start playlist playback. Send the intended media program through an encoder or use a cloud service that plays uploaded videos to YouTube.
- The encoder feed does not appear in the event: Check that the encoder has the stream URL and key for the intended event, and that its feed is running. Confirm the preview in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
- The wrong category or event details appear: Review the title, description, schedule, privacy, and audience settings. If you reused settings, check for copied metadata or a stream key from the previous event.
- The wrong program is playing: Verify the encoder’s selected media source or scene against your category-to-event mapping. A playlist name in Studio does not choose the encoder’s program.
- Viewers cannot see or find the event: Check whether it is public, private, or unlisted and whether its scheduled time is correct. Private and unlisted events are not equivalent to public upcoming streams.
