Create a Spotify playlist from the Create button on mobile or from Your Library on desktop, then add tracks from the playlist or a song’s menu. Saving a playlist to Your Library is different from liking its individual songs, and privacy, profile visibility, and collaboration are separate settings.
Create a playlist
On mobile or tablet
- Tap Create in Spotify.
- Select Playlist, enter a name, then tap Create.
- Tap Add to this playlist to choose tracks, or use Spotify’s recommendations.
On desktop or the web player
- Open Your Library and click Create.
- Choose Playlist, enter a name and edit any other details.
- Click Save. Spotify also lists Cmd-N on Mac and Ctrl-N on Windows as playlist-creation shortcuts.

Add songs to a playlist
On mobile or tablet
Open the playlist and tap Add, or open a song’s menu and select Add to Playlist. Choose the playlist, then tap Done.
On desktop or the web player
Right-click a track or open its menu, choose Add to Playlist, and select the destination. You can also drag a track into a playlist.

Edit tracks and their order
On mobile or tablet
Open the playlist and tap Edit to remove tracks. Spotify’s current help instructions say reordering on mobile works by tapping, holding, and dragging a track, and is available to Premium users only.
On desktop or the web player
To remove a song, open its track menu and choose the removal option. Drag tracks into the order you want to rearrange them.

Save a playlist, and know what that saves
Select Add or Save on a playlist to keep it in Your Library. That saves the playlist to your library; it is not the same as saving each track to Liked Songs. Spotify also notes that saving an album or artist does not automatically save every song from it. See Save and recover playlists and Your Library.

Keep a snapshot of a playlist’s current tracks
Some playlists update regularly. Spotify’s playlist feature does not let you save or recover a particular past version. To preserve the tracks currently in a playlist, save songs individually or use Add to other playlist to copy all its current tracks into another playlist.
Restore a deleted playlist
If you deleted a playlist within the last 90 days, Spotify says you can restore it from Recover playlists. The restored playlist appears at the bottom of your playlist collection.

Choose who can access a playlist
Playlist access, profile visibility, and collaboration are distinct controls. Spotify says new playlists are public by default, but you can change a playlist’s privacy through its menu.

- Public: The playlist is accessible to others. Public status alone does not determine whether it appears on your profile.
- Published to your profile: Spotify says only public playlists appear on a Spotify profile. You can add or remove a playlist from your profile using its menu. Spotify also provides mobile and desktop controls for publishing new playlists by default; see Publishing playlists to your profile.
- Collaborative: Collaborators can add, remove, and reorder tracks. Spotify lets the owner remove collaborators. An invitation link is valid for 7 days; see Collaborative playlists.
Share a private playlist or invite collaborators
Spotify documents a share link that gives selected people view access to a private playlist and expires after 7 days. Collaboration is different: it lets invited collaborators change the playlist. Use the playlist’s sharing or collaboration controls and choose the access you intend.
