For each localized page, generate an image that displays its actual language correctly, then give that page its own Open Graph metadata: og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url. Set an appropriate og:locale, use UTF-8, and check the rendered image with the target script and font before publishing. Open Graph tags describe the share image; hreflang connects translated page versions for Google. Neither guarantees how a social platform will render a card.
Build a separate share image and metadata for each language URL
Treat each localized URL as its own shareable page. Its title, canonical page URL and image should all represent that page—not a different language variant. Add the core Open Graph properties to the document head of every version:

og:locale is optional. Its documented format is language_TERRITORY, and the protocol documents en_US as the default. For a regional-language page, provide a value appropriate to its language and territory when known instead of leaving metadata to imply the default. If the page has alternate locales, og:locale:alternate can list them. These fields describe locale metadata; they do not translate page content or tell Google which URL is the translated equivalent.

Describe the image
The protocol also supports optional image properties: og:image:type, og:image:width, og:image:height and og:image:alt. Add accurate values for the image you serve, including a useful alternative description. Alt text should describe the image, not serve as its caption. The protocol lists these properties but does not establish a universal image size requirement for every sharing platform. Open Graph protocol
Connect localized equivalents with reciprocal hreflang links
Use hreflang to identify equivalent localized pages for Google Search. Google supports annotations in HTML, HTTP headers or sitemaps; these methods are equivalent from Google’s perspective, so choose the one that is easiest to maintain. Each version should list itself and every alternate version with fully qualified URLs. References must be reciprocal: if two pages fail to point to each other, Google says it will ignore those annotations. Google Search Central: localized versions

Preserve the script and inspect the generated image
Use UTF-8 for the web page and the text supplied to your image-generation process. Unicode recommends UTF-8 for web pages, noting: “You should always use UTF-8.” Unicode and the Web FAQ

Correct encoding is necessary for preserving text, but it does not prove that a particular image library and font will shape every Indic script correctly. Choose a font with the glyph coverage your page needs, then inspect the actual generated file at its intended display size. Look for joined forms and conjuncts, vowel signs and marks, clipping, line breaks, and unexpected fallback glyphs. These are practical review points, not a claim that any specific renderer or font has been certified for every script.
- Generate the image using the real localized title and any other text that will appear on it.
- Open the resulting image and check the target script at the expected display size; do not rely only on the source string or a browser preview of the HTML.
- Verify that the deployed image URL is reachable by the sharing platform’s crawler and that the page metadata points to that exact image.
- Use a preview or debugging workflow from the intended platform if available, then inspect the actual share card after deployment.
Platform-specific dimensions, crop behavior and cache behavior are not universal in the Open Graph protocol, and image-generation compatibility varies by renderer and font. Confirm those details in the actual target context rather than assuming UTF-8 or metadata tags settle them.

Choose a generation approach your stack can verify
Two common implementation paths are static image files prepared for each page, and images generated dynamically through a framework route or a separate generator. The right choice depends on whether your deployment supports the approach, whether the process can load the required font, whether crawlers can fetch the deployed output, and how easily you can inspect the final image and metadata before release.
