To create a favorite outfit in an MMO, open the game’s appearance or wardrobe feature, choose the look for the relevant gear slots, then use the game’s explicit save, apply, or outfit control. The exact menu and whether it stores a set or individual slot appearances depend on the game.
How to save an outfit in any MMO
- Open the appearance system. Look for a menu named Wardrobe, Transmog, Fashion, Glamour, or Outfit. Use the game’s own feature name once you identify it.
- Choose the look. Select cosmetic appearances for the equipment slots you want to change, or choose a set if the game saves complete outfits.
- Save or apply it explicitly. A preview may not be saved. Look for a button or menu action such as Save, Apply, or Save Outfit.
- Check the cost and persistence. Unlocking saved slots, changing cosmetic appearances, and switching between saved looks may follow different rules. Also check whether the look remains attached to gear slots when you equip new items.
Because the MMO, platform, and patch are unspecified, there is no universal click path, prerequisite, slot count, or price. These official examples show how the feature differs across games.

| Game or feature | Where it is and what it saves | Save or apply action | Costs and behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| World of Warcraft transmog | Blizzard describes appearances assigned to gear slots, with saved outfits available as sets. Newly equipped gear inherits the appearance selected for its slot. | Unlock an outfit slot and save the outfit. Blizzard also describes assigning an outfit to the action bar and optional automatic switching for situations such as entering town or a dungeon, changing specialization, or returning home. | Blizzard says unlocking outfit slots costs gold and switching among unlocked saved outfits is free. The September 2, 2025 feature description says players can unlock and save “dozens of outfits”; confirm current in-game availability and costs. Blizzard’s transmog update and its returning-player guide describe these rules. |
| FINAL FANTASY XIV glamour plates | At the glamour dresser, a plate stores an ensemble made from items in the dresser or armoire. Patch 7.1 also describes an outfit glamour that condenses a set combination into one dresser slot; it has compatibility constraints, so it does not necessarily accept arbitrary pieces. | Interact with the glamour dresser, select “Edit Glamour Plates,” choose items for the relevant categories, save the plate, then apply it. The official UI guide describes applying a plate as changing the whole outfit at once. | The cited official procedural guide explains the workflow but does not establish a universal current cost. See the FINAL FANTASY XIV UI Guide and Patch 7.1 notes for the documented plate and outfit-glamour behavior. |
| Guild Wars 2 Fashion Templates | Fashion Template tabs hold cosmetic selections for a character. | Click “Save” to preserve the template; saving and applying are separate actions. | ArenaNet says accounts start with two tabs per character and can purchase seven more in the in-game Gem Store, for nine total. Changing a cosmetic skin can use a Transmutation Charge per updated slot, with an exception for a corresponding legendary gear piece. Check the current game interface for costs. ArenaNet’s Fashion Templates guide explains the system. |
| Bethesda Outfit Station | The support instructions describe customizing an outfit through an Outfit Station, without identifying a game in the cited page. | Select “Outfit 1” from “Select Outfit,” customize the appearance, then choose “Apply Changes.” | The cited instructions do not establish a specific game or a general cost. See Bethesda Support for the Outfit Station instructions. |
What to check if the outfit does not save
- Make sure you used the save or apply action rather than only previewing the appearance.
- Check whether you are editing a saved set, a glamour plate, a fashion template, or the appearance assigned to individual equipment slots; these are not interchangeable.
- Confirm that the items meet the game’s storage or set-compatibility rules. FINAL FANTASY XIV’s outfit glamour, for example, has restrictions on which pieces can be combined.
- Look in the game interface for any cost to unlock a slot or change a skin. Saving a template and applying it may have different costs.
