To group tabs in Safari on macOS 27, use the Sidebar menu to create a group from all tabs in the current window, or make an empty group and add selected tabs. You can then switch between groups, preview their tabs, and manage them from Safari’s sidebar.
Create a group from the tabs already open
Use this option when the current Safari window already contains the pages you want to keep together.

- In Safari, click the down arrow beside the Sidebar button in the toolbar. If the sidebar is already open, click the Add Tab Group button.
- Choose New Tab Group with [number] Tabs. Safari displays the number of tabs it will include.
- Enter a name for the group and press Return.
The group collects the tabs open in that window, so choose this option when you want to save the whole current set rather than select pages individually. Apple’s macOS 27 guide to grouping tabs
Create an empty group and add selected tabs
Start with an empty group if you want to choose exactly which open pages belong together.

- Open the Sidebar menu with the down arrow beside the Sidebar button, or click the Add Tab Group button if the sidebar is open.
- Choose New Empty Tab Group, enter a name, and press Return.
- Control-click a tab in the tab bar, choose Move to Tab Group, and select the group. Alternatively, drag the tab into the group in the sidebar.
Repeat the last step for each tab you want to add. Apple documents both ways to move tabs into a group.

Switch to a group or preview its pages
Choose a group from the Sidebar menu, or click its name in the open sidebar. To preview its tabs, Control-click the group in the sidebar and choose Show Tab Overview. Apple’s Safari guide describes opening and previewing groups.

Rename, delete, or reorder a group
Control-click a group in the sidebar and choose the rename or delete command. To change the order of groups, drag them within the sidebar. To rearrange pages inside the current group, drag tabs in the tab bar. Closing a tab while its group is open removes that tab from the group. Apple’s Tab Groups customization guide also explains that you can choose a start-page background for each group and keep groups consistent across devices with iCloud for Safari.

A named Tab Group is one you create and control: you choose its name and which tabs it contains. Safari’s suggested topic organization is a separate feature that requires Apple Intelligence. In Safari’s Tabs settings, Automatically Create Topics groups related tabs; Show Related Tabs suggests related pages without automatically organizing them; and Never turns off this organization. Apple’s Tabs settings guide notes that Apple Intelligence is not available in all languages or regions and that usage limits may apply, so suggested topics may not be available to everyone.

Share a group or connect it to a Focus
Collaborate in a shared group
To share a Tab Group, each participant must be signed in to an Apple Account, have Safari set up in iCloud, and have two-factor authentication turned on. Participants can add or remove tabs, with changes visible to everyone in real time. Apple’s current guide allows up to 100 participants in a Shared Tab Group. See Apple’s sharing and collaboration requirements.
Use a group with a Focus
You can select a Tab Group as a Safari Focus Filter in macOS Focus settings. During setup, you can also choose whether external links are allowed to open in that group. Apple’s Focus guide for Tab Groups covers the available setup.
