To create recurring events in WordPress, you need a calendar plugin that supports recurrence. With The Events Calendar, recurring events require the paid Events Calendar Pro add-on; the free plugin provides core calendar views but does not include recurring-event creation. Once you create a base event and set its recurrence pattern, you can publish it in the calendar or embed a calendar view in a page.
What you need before creating recurring events
These steps use The Events Calendar, a specific plugin workflow rather than a built-in WordPress feature. Install and activate The Events Calendar, and add Events Calendar Pro if you need recurring schedules. How to create a recurring event
- Create the base event. In the WordPress dashboard, go to Events → Add New. Enter the event title and description, dates and times, and any relevant venue or organizer details. The event editor is similar to the standard WordPress editor.
- Set the recurrence. In the event’s recurrence controls, choose the schedule pattern and its dates. Add individual dates or exceptions for occurrences that differ from the regular pattern or should be skipped.
- Save the event. Saving creates the occurrences in the series. Check the public calendar to confirm that the expected dates appear.
The Events Calendar’s official guide states, “You can only add one recurrence pattern per event.” If a schedule combines different patterns—for example, weekly dates during one period and monthly dates during another—create separate recurring events and group them in a Series rather than trying to express them with a single rule.

How to display the recurring dates
Use the site’s calendar
The Events Calendar’s free plugin includes list, month, and day views. Events Calendar Pro adds week, photo, map, and summary views. Publish the event and check the calendar in the views your visitors are likely to use. The vendor describes the available views in its calendar views documentation.
Embed a calendar in a page or post
Events Calendar Pro supports the [tribe_events] shortcode for placing a calendar view inside a page or post that supports shortcodes. With no view specified, the shortcode follows the site’s configured default view. To request a particular view, use an attribute such as [tribe_events view="list"]. Show every occurrence or a compact series
For long-running series, decide whether visitors should see every occurrence in list-style views or a condensed entry for the series. Events Calendar Pro’s “Recurring event instances” setting can condense those views, and the vendor also documents a front-end toggle. Show individual dates when people need to scan or choose a specific occurrence; use a condensed display when a long series would dominate the list.

Choosing a WordPress events plugin
Recurring-event features differ by plugin, so check the current listing and documentation before building a calendar around a particular workflow. WordPress.org lists options including The Events Calendar, My Calendar, Calendar, Vieww Events Calendar, and Awesome Calendar Events, but their feature sets are not interchangeable. Compare the details that affect your schedule and site:

- Confirm that Events Calendar Pro is installed and licensed.
- Save the WordPress permalink settings.
- Review the event’s date and time display settings.
- If the problem continues, test for conflicts with the active theme or other plugins.
