Create a dedicated OBS Scene Collection for the loop scene and its sources, then put YouTube connection and output settings in an OBS Profile. Add a Media Source for one video and enable Loop, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist for multiple files. Test playback, audio, and streaming before relying on the setup.
What a Scene Collection does—and what it does not
An OBS Scene Collection keeps a group of scenes and sources together so you can switch between distinct setups, such as a dedicated loop stream and a separate gaming or recording layout. It also includes Global Audio Sources. It does not store output settings; those belong in an OBS Profile. OBS explains the distinction in its Scene Collections documentation and Profiles documentation.

That separation matters: a collection can hold the loop scene while a profile holds the YouTube connection and video and output configuration. You can combine a profile and a scene collection, and use different combinations for different broadcasts.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCreate a collection and a loop scene
- Create or select the collection. In OBS, open the Scene Collection menu and choose New. Give it a clear name such as “YouTube Loop.” If you already created the collection, select it from this menu. The collection should be easy to distinguish from your other OBS setups.
- Add a scene. In the Scenes dock, use the add control to create a scene named something recognizable, such as “Loop.”
- Add the video source. In the Sources dock, use the add control and select Media Source. Create a new source, select the local video file, and enable Loop in its properties. OBS documents Media Source formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM; see its Media Sources documentation.
- Check the preview. Confirm that the video is framed as intended and that its audio is present at an appropriate level. Add only necessary overlays. OBS composites sources in list order: a source higher in the list can appear over sources beneath it. Verify the final result in the preview before streaming.
Choose the right source for a single file or playlist
| Source | Use it for | Loop setting | Dependency or consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Media Source | One local video file | Enable Loop to replay the file when it ends. | Built into OBS; supported formats are listed in the OBS documentation. |
| VLC Video | A playlist of media files | Enable Loop Playlist to restart the list when it runs out. | VLC must be installed. With 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC. The source also offers visibility behavior controls for when it is hidden. |
For VLC Video, add the playlist entries in the source properties and choose the behavior you want if the source becomes hidden during a scene change: it can continue, pause, or stop. These settings are useful when the loop source is shared across scenes; for a single-scene loop, keep the scene active and verify the source behavior you selected.

Keep YouTube and output settings in a Profile
Open the Profile menu and create or select a profile for the YouTube stream. Set the stream service and account or stream key, plus the relevant Video and Output options, in that profile. The precise output values depend on your channel and the media you intend to broadcast; the OBS pages cited here explain where these settings are kept but do not establish one ideal resolution or bitrate for every stream. Do not expect a Scene Collection change to carry output configuration with it.
OBS Profiles can store stream, video, and output settings, while Scene Collections store scenes and sources. This lets you keep a loop layout separate without confusing it with the settings used for another stream. See OBS Profiles for the documented profile/collection workflow.

Test before the planned broadcast
- Select the YouTube Profile and the dedicated loop Scene Collection.
- Start the scene and watch the preview long enough to confirm the file starts, repeats at its end, and has the expected audio and overlays.
- Make a short test recording or stream. Confirm that the output appears as expected and that the YouTube connection works before scheduling a longer broadcast.
- If you use a playlist, test the transition from the last entry back to the first and confirm the chosen hidden-source behavior.
OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing for a few minutes, and its Overview Guide recommends testing scenes and stream operation before the first live broadcast.
Limits to keep in mind
Enabling a loop tells OBS how to replay the media source; it does not establish that a stream will remain uninterrupted indefinitely. The cited OBS documentation describes the source controls and recommends testing, but does not state an uptime guarantee, YouTube live-stream eligibility requirements, or a limit for continuous broadcasts. Check YouTube’s current rules for your channel and make sure you have the rights needed to stream the video and audio you use.
