Yes—you can start and publish a basic website from a phone if your website builder supports mobile creation. Wix documents starting from its app or a mobile browser; however, a phone is not a full substitute for a computer. Wix says advanced editing is available on desktop, and Squarespace notes that some editing features require a computer.
Before you open a website builder, decide what the site needs to do
Start with the visitor’s main task. Should they learn about you, view your work, contact you, read posts, book an appointment, or buy something? That decision helps you choose a builder and avoid adding pages or features you do not need.

For a small first site, consider a home page, an about or services page, a way to contact you, and any page essential to the visitor’s task—such as a portfolio, booking page, product page, or blog. Keep the navigation short and make the main action easy to find. This is a practical starting point, not a required page structure.

Wix explicitly documents creating a site from its mobile app or a mobile browser. Squarespace describes mobile editing through its app and browser, but also says that some editing features require a computer. Wix likewise identifies advanced editing as desktop work. Check the current workflow for the features your particular site needs rather than assuming that every setup or edit can be completed on a phone.
Wix’s documented setup includes categories such as blog, online store, portfolio, restaurant, event, and consultant. Those categories can help you find a starting point; they do not establish that every related feature can be configured entirely on a phone.
Create the site on your phone
Option 1: Start in a mobile browser with Wix
- Open Wix.com in your phone’s browser and sign in.
- Tap + Create New Site.
- Choose the AI-assisted or manual setup route.
- Follow the prompts to select a site category and add the tools your site needs.
Wix states that you can create a new site from your mobile device’s browser if you prefer not to download the app. Its documented browser flow offers both AI-assisted and manual setup.
Option 2: Start in the Wix app
- Open the Wix app and sign in.
- If this is your first site, tap Create Now. If you already have a site, tap + Create New.
- Continue through the setup prompts to choose a category and select relevant tools.
Use AI as a draft—or set up manually
In Wix’s AI-assisted flow, the assistant asks what you want to create and may generate a site profile, tools, images, and text. Review the proposed profile and all generated content before publishing. The documented workflow describes how Wix generates material; it does not establish that generated copy is factually accurate or ready to use without review.

Add the essential content and actions
- Write clear headings and concise text that explain what the site offers.
- Use relevant images and check that they display as intended.
- Add a working contact method, purchase path, booking action, or other primary call to action.
- Include only the pages and tools that support the visitor’s task.
Check the mobile version, then publish
Wix documents a mobile-friendly version and separate mobile customization. Desktop elements can appear in mobile view, and some content may be hidden or adjusted. Preview the mobile presentation and check that the important content and actions are visible.
- Preview the site in the builder’s mobile view and make any available mobile-specific adjustments.
- Publish using the builder’s publish control.
- Open the published URL on a phone—not only inside the editor—and test the menu, links, forms, and any store or booking actions.
- Read the text at normal phone size and confirm that visitors can find the primary action.
The final checks are practical usability steps, not a guarantee from the builder that every site element will work as intended.

What a phone-only workflow may not cover
Wix says advanced site editing is available from a desktop. Squarespace says many parts of its service are mobile friendly, but some editing features require a computer, and its app does not include every part of the service. A phone can be enough for a basic launch only when the chosen builder supports the necessary tasks for your site.
Both platforms’ mobile capabilities and supported-device details can change. Squarespace’s mobile-editing guide was last updated June 26, 2026, its app guide February 3, 2026, and Wix says its supported-device information is accurate as of May 2026. Check the platform’s current help information for your device and the specific editing task you need.

Wix says free sites display a Wix banner on desktop and mobile, and that an upgrade is required to remove it. Its setup also presents options to buy or connect a domain. Check current plan, branding, and domain terms directly before deciding whether the free option fits your needs; the available documentation here does not establish current plan prices.
Or skip the browser setup
If you want to check a published page as an image without setting up a browser capture workflow, ScreenshotNeo can return a website screenshot with one GET request. Replace the example URL with your published site’s URL. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents, including clients such as Claude and Cursor. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Visit ScreenshotNeo or sign up for the free plan.
Common problems and what to check
- You cannot find an editing control on your phone: the feature may require desktop editing. Check the builder’s current mobile and desktop editing guidance, then use a computer for that task if required.
- The mobile page omits or rearranges content: inspect the builder’s mobile view and available mobile customization controls. Wix documents that some desktop content can be hidden or adjusted in mobile view.
- AI-generated text or images do not fit your site: review and replace them as needed; treat generated material as a draft, not verified information.
- A free site displays builder branding: Wix says its free sites show a banner on desktop and mobile. Check the current upgrade and branding terms if you need to remove it.
- A page looks fine in the editor but not on your phone: open the published URL on the device and test the actual navigation, links, and primary action.
