To save a webpage as a PDF with a visible print date, use your browser’s print dialog and enable its headers-and-footers option. In Microsoft Edge, turn on Headers and footers to add the current date to the header; then inspect the preview and the saved PDF. That date records the print workflow’s current date—it does not authenticate the page or prove when its content first appeared.
What a visible timestamp does—and does not—show
A browser-generated date is useful for labeling a copy with the date it was printed or saved. The cited browser instructions describe print settings; they do not describe a trusted timestamp service or a way to verify that webpage content is authentic. A visible date alone therefore does not establish that the page’s statements were true or that the page existed in that form on an earlier date.

If you need a record for a consequential dispute, follow the relevant organization’s or professional’s evidence-handling instructions. Do not assume an ordinary browser PDF will be accepted as legal evidence.
Create the PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage. Choose Settings and more > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Expand More settings and enable Headers and footers. Microsoft says this adds the current date to the document header and the page number to the footer. Microsoft’s Edge print instructions.
- Review the preview, then select the available PDF destination and save the file.
- Open the saved PDF and check that the date and the page content you need are visible.
Save a timestamped PDF in Firefox
- Open the page menu and choose Print to open print preview.
- Choose Save to PDF in the destination dropdown.
- Expand More settings and enable Print headers and footers. Adjust paper size, scale, margins, format, or backgrounds if needed.
- Inspect both the preview and saved PDF. Mozilla cautions: “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen, so don’t be surprised to see some changes.” Mozilla Support’s Firefox print guide.
For extension developers, Firefox’s tabs.saveAsPDF API documentation identifies “&D” as the current date/time substitution for headers and footers. This is API guidance, not a consumer step-by-step setting.

Use Adobe Acrobat to include the URL and download time
Acrobat’s webpage conversion advanced settings allow headers and footers on new pages. Adobe says a header can show the page title or URL, while the footer can show the URL and download date/time. See Adobe’s webpage-to-PDF instructions (last updated September 23, 2025). Inspect the result to confirm the fields appear as intended.
Check the PDF before relying on it
- Confirm the date or date/time is actually visible in the saved file, not only in the preview.
- Check that relevant text, images, page sections, and URLs have not been omitted or clipped.
- Review page breaks, scale, margins, and background settings when the printed layout differs from the live page.
- Keep the source URL with the file if it is important to identify which page you saved; a visible date is not a substitute for that context.
Optional capture extension: distinguish listing claims from verification
The Chrome Web Store listing for Web Evidence Capture for Court claims that its extension packages a visible-page screenshot, source URL and title, UTC capture time, SHA-256 image hash, and a single-page PDF. Those are claims in the product listing; the extension has not been independently tested here. A listing does not by itself verify evidence integrity or legal sufficiency.
