To create an itinerary on Tripadvisor, open Trips and either build a trip from places you have saved or ask the AI Assistant for recommendations. Review its day-by-day plan, save it to Trips, then edit, rearrange, and share it with your travel companions. You can start AI planning without an account, but Tripadvisor says you need to sign in to save a trip and access chat history.
Choose how to start your itinerary
Tripadvisor’s current U.S. English Trips page offers two starting points: use saved places to build a trip yourself, or use AI for custom recommendations. The page also describes Trips as a place to organize ideas and collaborate with friends. It currently prompts visitors to sign in.

Build from places you have saved
Choose this route if you already have hotels, restaurants, attractions, or other places in mind. Add your saved items to the trip and arrange them into a plan. This gives you direct control over what goes into the itinerary.
Ask the AI Assistant for a starting plan
On Tripadvisor’s AI Assistant page, describe the destination, dates, and who is traveling. The assistant may ask follow-up questions, then suggest places such as hotels, restaurants, and things to do. Example prompts include “Plan a 3-day foodie itinerary in Rome” and “3-day itinerary for Tokyo in spring.” Treat recommendations as a draft to review, not as a confirmed schedule.

Save and refine the day-by-day plan
- Enter the trip details. Give the AI Assistant your destination, dates, and travelers. You can begin planning without creating an account.
- Review the recommendations. Check the suggested places and decide which fit your plans before saving them.
- Save the itinerary to Trips. Sign in when prompted; Tripadvisor says signing in is needed to save trips and access chat history.
- Edit and rearrange the itinerary. Adjust the saved day-by-day plan to suit your schedule. Tripadvisor describes saved AI itineraries as editable and rearrangeable.
- Share it with your companions. Use the sharing options available in your Trips interface so fellow travelers can see the plan.
Tripadvisor’s AI Assistant page also describes hotel links with live pricing and availability. Booking takes place through Tripadvisor or the provider. Rates and availability can change; Tripadvisor says it is not a booking agent or tour operator, so check the provider’s site for applicable fees and terms.
Organize a multi-day or multi-destination trip
Tripadvisor’s My Trips FAQ describes saving hotels, restaurants, attractions, reviews, photos, forum posts, and maps, as well as adding dates, notes, maps, and personal information. It recommends organizing a day-by-day itinerary with subfolders for each day. For a trip with several stops, it describes sorting saved places by location and using folders or subfolders for separate destinations. You can also add items by saving them while browsing or searching for hotels, attractions, or restaurants from within a trip folder. Custom information can include flight or rental-car details and confirmation numbers.
These folder instructions come from Tripadvisor’s FAQ, while the current Trips page describes the feature more broadly. The current page does not confirm that every older folder control is still available. If the directions do not match your account, follow the controls shown in your Trips interface.

Share or print the itinerary
Tripadvisor’s My Trips FAQ documents email sharing that creates a read-only version of a trip folder. It says the shared link is available for 30 days and that later edits to the original folder do not appear in the shared view. If your interface offers this option, check that the plan is ready before sending it.

The same FAQ describes a printer-friendly view that can include saved items, custom information, maps, and notes. It says you can print a top-level folder with its subfolders or print one subfolder by itself. However, the current Trips page does not confirm that printing is still available. Check your account for a print control before relying on a paper copy.
