Render HTML and CSS as a transparent PNG with Playwright
A browser must render the document before it can be captured as pixels. Playwright’s Page screenshot API supports PNG output and the omitBackground option, which hides the default white background and permits transparency. The option does not apply to JPEG images. })();Save this as a JavaScript file in a project where Playwright is installed, then run it with Node.js. The result is output.png in the current working directory. If the page never reaches network idle because of ongoing requests, choose an appropriate readiness condition for your page and capture after its content is ready.
Keep the areas you want transparent unpainted
omitBackground removes the browser’s default page background; it is not a command to erase backgrounds painted by your document. If a rule such as body { background: white; } or a component background paints a region, that paint is page content and should remain in the image.

Remove or change opaque background declarations on the page and the elements behind the subject.

Keep backgrounds on elements that are meant to appear in the final image, such as a colored card or logo tile.

Use an image viewer that displays transparency as a checkerboard or inspect the PNG’s alpha channel; some viewers show transparent pixels against white.

Choose the capture area and output scale
Capture the visible viewport or the whole page
By default, a page screenshot captures the viewport. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable page. For a single logo, card, or other component, use a locator’s screenshot method rather than capturing the whole document:

});Element capture is useful when surrounding page content is irrelevant. Ensure the target element and any content it depends on have rendered before the capture.
Use CSS pixels or device pixels intentionally
scale: 'css' produces one image pixel per CSS pixel, giving predictable CSS-sized output. scale: 'device' uses device pixels and can produce a larger image on high-DPI displays. Choose based on the dimensions and resolution you need; a larger raster also uses more storage and memory.

Make captures repeatable
Dynamic content, animations, and late-loading assets can make otherwise identical runs look different. Wait for the content you need, and control animations where repeatability matters. Playwright documents animation handling and style injection for screenshot assertions in its visual comparisons guide; those testing options are useful context, not a guarantee that every page asset will load successfully.

Consider a hosted HTML-to-image service
HTML/CSS to Image documents a transparent-background setting for its image-generation request. That establishes that the option exists, but does not by itself establish comparative quality, pricing, speed, dimensions, or asset restrictions. Check its current documentation and terms for the controls your workflow needs: HTML/CSS to Image transparent-background guide.
Troubleshooting transparent PNG captures

The PNG looks white behind the content: Confirm that the capture is a PNG and that
omitBackground: trueis present. Then check for a white background set in your page or component CSS; the option only omits the browser’s default background.What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The output is JPEG: JPEG does not support this Playwright transparency option. Request PNG output instead.

The image is cropped: The default is a viewport capture. Use
fullPage: truefor the full scrollable document, or use a locator screenshot for a particular element. -
The image is too small or too large: Check the selected scale. CSS scale maps CSS pixels one-to-one to image pixels; device scale uses device pixels and may increase dimensions on high-DPI displays.

Content is missing or changes between runs: Capture only after the required content has rendered. Investigate dynamic elements and animations, and use suitable waits or animation controls for your page.
