How to make a quick poll with emoji reactions

Click the compose button to start a message.

Write a specific question and list the answer options, assigning a different emoji to each. Slack suggests using blockquote formatting to make the choices easier to scan.

Tell participants whether to select one answer or react to every option that applies. If the result needs to inform a decision, include a closing time.

Slack describes this as a quick, informal poll. Reactions appear in the channel context, so this method should not be presented as anonymous. Slack’s instructions also do not describe vote deduplication; do not assume the reaction count guarantees one vote per person.
Choose a poll method for your needs

Slack’s Help Center puts the distinction simply: “Survey teammates using a polling app from the Slack Marketplace, or create a quick and informal poll in a message.”
When to use a Marketplace polling app
A Marketplace app may be a better fit when you need a more formal survey or anonymous voting. For example, the Slack Marketplace listing for Poll App describes anonymous polls. Its listing text says “Free for non-commercial use and tiered plans starting at $15 a month”; this is that app’s listing-specific pricing statement, not a Slack-wide price. Check the listing for current terms and features.

When a Workflow Builder form makes more sense
For repeatable feedback, a workflow form can collect structured responses and route them into a process rather than relying on a one-time reaction count. Slack documents a feedback form template that can send responses to a channel and automatically add them to a Google Sheet. Workflow Builder is a paid-plan feature, and workspace owners or admins can restrict who uses it.
