To create a PDF from HTML in Zapier, add a PDF-conversion app such as PDF.co after the trigger that supplies your HTML or URL, configure its HTML-to-PDF action, test the result, then save or send the PDF in a separate step if you need to keep it. PDF.co requires an account, API key, and sufficient credits to connect.
Build the Zap with PDF.co
- Choose a trigger. Select the event that provides the content, such as a form submission, a new HTML file, or an event from another app.
- Add the conversion action. Add PDF.co and choose HTML to PDF Converter. Zapier’s integration supports HTML or a URL as input, along with options such as orientation, page size, custom margins, background rendering, media type, and filename. It also lists Handlebars and Mustache template support. See PDF.co’s Zapier integration.
- Map the input and set layout options. Pass the upstream HTML, rendered template, or web URL into the corresponding input. Choose portrait or landscape and adjust page size and margins for the actual document; landscape can suit wide tables, but it is not automatically best for every report.
- Test and inspect the PDF. Run the action with representative content. Check that text and images appear, page breaks are sensible, and size, orientation, margins, and filename are right. PDF.co’s Zapier tutorial recommends checking the resulting document.
- Add a handoff step if needed. Add another Zap action to save the result to a storage app or send it to someone. PDF.co says its returned output URL is temporary; its tutorial gives Google Drive, Dropbox, Airtable, and email as possible downstream destinations.

PDF.co’s Zapier help says you need an active PDF.co account, an API key, and sufficient credits. The cited documentation does not establish current comparative prices, quotas, or service limits, so check the provider’s current account terms rather than assuming a particular allowance.

When PDF4me may fit better
PDF4me also documents a Zapier action named Convert HTML to PDF. Its integration guide describes mapping an HTML file, choosing portrait or landscape, and receiving a PDF file URL for later Zap steps. PDF4me says HTML files may contain embedded CSS and media and describes CSS support. This route may fit a workflow that already passes an HTML file; verify the input expected by your Zap and test the rendering rather than assuming it will match PDF.co’s output. Base the choice on the form of your incoming content, the rendering controls you need, and how the PDF will be handed off. Test an actual invoice, report, certificate, or other representative document before relying on the automation. Inspect the final saved or delivered file, not only the conversion step’s test response.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The app will not connect: Confirm that the PDF.co account is active, the API key is correct, and the account has sufficient credits.
- The PDF is missing content or has awkward page breaks: Test with the real HTML or URL and adjust page size, orientation, margins, or background rendering. Inspect the produced PDF after each change.
- The next Zap step cannot access the PDF later: PDF.co’s tutorial describes its output URL as temporary. Add a storage or delivery action immediately after conversion when the document must persist.
- The two conversion services render differently: Compare them using the same representative HTML file, embedded CSS, and media. The available integration descriptions do not establish identical rendering behavior.
