You can create a timed WooCommerce sale without a dedicated flash-sale plugin: set a scheduled sale price on the product, choose its start and end dates, and save. Use a coupon when shoppers must enter a code or you need coupon restrictions and usage limits; use the WooCommerce Flash Sale extension when you need rule-based targeting, banners, or a countdown timer.
Choose the right kind of flash sale

For a straightforward price reduction, the scheduled sale price is built into WooCommerce; an extension is not inherently required. WooCommerce’s Product Sale Countdown documentation describes the core scheduling steps. The separate WooCommerce Flash Sale extension documentation covers rule-level controls. Use the route that matches how customers should receive the discount.
Schedule a sale price on a product
- In WordPress Admin, go to WooCommerce > Products and open the product you want to discount.
- In Product Data > General, enter the discounted amount in the sale-price field below the regular price.
- Choose the schedule option beside the sale-price field and set the start and end dates.
- Save or update the product, then check the storefront to confirm the displayed price and sale dates are correct.
This sets a product sale price, rather than requiring a customer to enter a coupon. WooCommerce’s documentation does not specify a universal timezone behavior for every store. Check your store’s configured timezone and verify the live price around the scheduled start and end, especially if the offer has a precise cutoff.

Schedule sale prices for several products
If the same date range should apply to a group of products, WooCommerce documents a bulk-edit route. Go to WooCommerce > Products, filter the products you want to change, select them, and use the bulk edit controls to choose Schedule Sale Price and set the sale-price date range. Review the selected products before applying the change; the schedule affects the products included in that bulk action.
See WooCommerce’s bulk-edit documentation for the documented options. Bulk editing is useful for a selected group, while an extension rule may be preferable when the sale should target a category or needs additional controls.

Set up a rule with the WooCommerce Flash Sale extension
- Install and activate the extension, then open WooCommerce > Flash Sales and add a new sale.
- Give the sale a title and enable it. Set its start and end dates.
- Choose the products or categories included. If multiple promotions may overlap, set and check the sale’s priority.
- Choose whether the discount is a percentage or fixed amount, enter its value, and configure any user-role targeting or discount message you need.
- If desired, configure the timer and banner options, including banner placement and appearance.
- Save the rule and review the storefront to confirm the intended products, discount, and dates are reflected.
The extension documentation lists these settings, including optional banner imagery and styling for the banner and Add to Cart button. These are capabilities described by the vendor, not independently verified compatibility or performance results. If a timer is shown, make sure its deadline matches the sale rule’s end date.
Use a coupon when the offer needs a code
- Go to Marketing > Coupons > Add coupon.
- Set the discount type and value, then add any coupon restrictions or usage limits the offer requires.
- Set the coupon’s expiry date and time.
- Use the Publish schedule control to choose when the coupon should be published.
- Publish or schedule the coupon, then verify that it is available and usable as intended. If you want to display the code across the storefront, Smart Coupons documents a Storewide Notice feature.
Coupon publication and coupon expiry are separate settings in the Smart Coupons flash-sale instructions. Set both deliberately: scheduling when a coupon appears does not replace setting when it expires.

Make the sale scope and deadline clear
- Identify exactly which product, selected products, or category is included.
- State the discount and any coupon code or eligibility restriction where customers will see the offer.
- Use the same end date for the price rule and any displayed countdown.
- Check the sale on the storefront at the planned start and near the end. Confirm the sale price, eligible products, and coupon behavior match your intended terms.
WooCommerce’s cited setup documents describe the available scheduling and presentation controls, but do not report a measured conversion or revenue lift from flash sales or countdown timers. Treat timers and banners as ways to communicate an offer, not evidence of a guaranteed sales result.
