You can create a continuous YouTube podcast stream with a scrolling episode list by building an OBS scene, looping one video or playing episodes in sequence, and placing a scrolling text source over the video. This produces an encoder-based YouTube live stream with an on-screen episode ticker—not a native YouTube podcast format or an automatically updating episode list.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- OBS Studio and your episode video files.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your stream. YouTube recommends at least 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above your total streaming bitrate; see its streaming tips.
Decide whether viewers should see one episode repeat or hear a sequence of separate episodes. A scrolling text list is a visual overlay; it does not control playback or update itself when the playlist advances.

Create a YouTube encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream using an encoder. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream setup flow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that broadcast.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube as the service, then enter the stream URL and key if OBS presents those fields. If using an account connection or a YouTube-specific service option, follow the matching connection flow instead.
Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it in the stream, a screenshot, or a recording. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Live Control Room before broadcasting again.

Build the video and episode list in OBS
Choose looping or sequential playback
- In your OBS scene, select Sources → + → Media Source to add one local episode video. Enable Loop in its properties if you want that file to repeat.
- For separate episode files, add Sources → + → VLC Video Source, choose the files in the order you want, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Arrange the source within the scene canvas and check that the video is framed as intended. A sequential playlist changes the episode being played; it is distinct from a ticker that merely displays text over one looping background.
Add the scrolling episode ticker
- Add a text source above the video source in the OBS Sources list. Enter episode titles, numbers, and brief descriptors. Sources higher in the list render on top of those beneath them; see the OBS Sources guide.
- With the text source selected, open its context menu and choose Filters. Add the Scroll filter.
- Set the scroll direction and speed, and adjust the source’s visible width or height as needed. OBS describes the filter as making a source image scroll in any direction; see its Scroll Filter documentation.
- Preview the text at the size viewers are likely to see on a phone. Keep titles short enough to read, and avoid covering faces, important video details, or other essential on-screen information.
The text source is a manually entered list. It will not automatically remove completed episodes or add the title of the currently playing file unless you build a separate mechanism to update it.

Test the stream before making it public
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room before making the broadcast public.
- Confirm that the intended episode or playlist plays in order, the ticker moves at a readable speed, and the audio is audible without clipping or being unexpectedly muted.
- Check that the title text is not obscured and that the stream is reaching YouTube at the expected quality. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring stream quality in its live-streaming tips.
- Keep upload headroom: YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% capacity beyond the total stream bitrate. Other devices or uploads on the same connection can reduce the capacity available to OBS.
Plan for interruptions and long broadcasts
Local computer and network dependence
With OBS running locally, the computer, OBS process, and network connection all need to remain available for the broadcast to continue. A power interruption, computer sleep, OBS crash, or lost connection can interrupt the stream. Monitor the encoder and YouTube preview rather than assuming a local setup will recover on its own.
YouTube archives and stream length
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you intend to run one continuous broadcast beyond that duration, check YouTube’s current handling and plan how you will manage the archive and any restart. The cited guidance does not establish that an indefinitely long broadcast will remain available as a single archive.

Copyright and channel policies
Only stream audio and video you have the rights to use. A podcast feed or an episode you can listen to is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast on YouTube. Review the rights for music, clips, guests’ material, and other included content, and check YouTube’s current policies before scheduling a public or monetized broadcast. This OBS setup does not change those rights or guarantee monetization.

Common problems and fixes
