For a recipient to apply a digital signature, the PDF must contain a form field with the signature type /Sig, not just a line, box, or HTML input rendered on the page. With ABCpdf, use its documented signature-field API where it fits your workflow, or render the HTML first and add a signature field over the resulting PDF coordinates.
What makes a PDF signature field signable?
A PDF signature field is a form field whose type is /Sig. When someone signs it, the signature is stored as the field’s value. A widget annotation supplies the field’s location on the page and can describe the field as well. See Adobe’s PDF Reference for the PDF field model.

A bordered <div>, horizontal line, or ordinary HTML <input> may show where a person should sign, but by itself it does not create a PDF /Sig field. The conversion or PDF-editing step must explicitly create the form field.

Choose how to create the field
Use ABCpdf’s signature-field API
WebSupergoo documents SignatureFieldElement as an ABCpdf class representing a signature field. Its documentation also lists field-lock and seed-value properties and references the PDF 1.7 and PDF 2.0 standards: SignatureFieldElement documentation. This establishes the native API concept, but it does not establish that an arbitrary HTML element is automatically converted into a signature field by ABCpdf’s HTML renderer.

Consult the reference for the ABCpdf release installed in your project before writing code against that class. The available sources do not establish a current, version-specific sequence of method calls that takes arbitrary HTML and emits a named blank field, so avoid assuming that a generic HTML forms setting will do so.
Render HTML, then add a field to the PDF
A documented historical example uses ABCpdf to convert HTML to PDF and locate a placeholder, then uses iTextSharp to add a blank signature field over that rectangle. The example is for ABCpdf 8 and is useful as a workflow pattern rather than current API guidance: Stack Overflow question and answer, asked December 17, 2013.

- Add a visually identifiable placeholder to the HTML, such as a block with a stable ID like
signature-area. - Render the complete HTML document with ABCpdf. The historical example notes that page chaining may be needed before resolving some locations and that relative resource paths may need to be physical paths; verify both against your ABCpdf version and document.
- Determine the placeholder’s rectangle in the rendered PDF. Check the actual coordinate units, page number, page rotation, and crop or media bounds for the document you generated.
- Use a PDF form library to add a named signature field with type
/Sigand a widget placed over that rectangle. The cited example used iTextSharp; confirm the API and licensing terms for the library version you choose. - Open the output in the intended PDF reader or a validation tool. Check that the form-field tree contains the expected field name and signature type, and that the visible widget is in the right place.
The placeholder is only a way to identify the intended location; the separate PDF-library step is what creates the signable field. Treat the older example’s coordinate and conversion details as implementation-specific, not universal ABCpdf behavior.

If the goal is to send an agreement for completion in a hosted signing service, rather than create a reusable blank field in a PDF, Adobe Acrobat Sign offers a separate text-tag workflow. For example, tags such as {{Sig_es_:signer1:signature}} are converted to Acrobat Sign form fields when a document is uploaded or sent for signature. See Adobe’s text-tag documentation. This hosted workflow does not mean ABCpdf’s HTML renderer creates a PDF signature field.
