Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo run a 24/7 YouTube rain-and-lofi radio stream, first clear the rights to every track and sound, confirm your channel can livestream, then send a continuous audio-and-video feed to YouTube using an encoder. You can run that encoder on a computer with OBS, supervise an FFmpeg process on a server, or upload your recording to a cloud service such as StreamNeo. None of these approaches makes outages impossible: plan how you will detect and recover from them.
1. Check channel eligibility and set up a broadcast
Before producing a long mix, verify that livestreaming is available for your channel. YouTube Help says a channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the user must be at least 16. YouTube says first-time activation timing can vary, so check the status in YouTube Studio rather than assuming it will be available immediately. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
For a radio-style presentation, use the encoder route in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Create or select the broadcast, choose the encoder option, and use the server address and stream key shown in Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not put it in a public description, screenshot, chat, or shared notes. YouTube’s help page also describes webcam, mobile, and console routes, but an encoder gives you more control over a composed visual and audio sources.
YouTube’s help page lists limits of up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These limits are unlikely to affect a single-station launch, but matter if you operate several feeds. Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service while live.

2. Clear the rights to the music, rain, and visuals
Make a rights inventory before you assemble the stream. Include every lofi track, rain recording, sample, loop, and visual asset. Having a copy of a file—or seeing it described online as “no copyright”—does not establish permission to use it in a continuous livestream. For external catalogs, commissions, or original collaborations, keep the applicable license terms or written permissions and check that they cover livestreaming and the way you plan to use the work. This is a practical checklist, not legal advice.
Using YouTube Audio Library tracks
YouTube states: “Music and sound effects from the YouTube Audio Library are copyright-safe.” That statement applies to tracks and effects in YouTube’s own Audio Library; YouTube says it cannot establish that music from unrelated libraries or channels is copyright-safe. Check each track’s license details. If a track uses a Creative Commons license, include the supplied attribution in the video description as required; some Audio Library tracks under YouTube’s standard license do not require attribution. Read YouTube’s Audio Library guidance before publishing.
Check the whole package
- Confirm permission for the rain ambience as well as the music. A licensed music track does not clear a separately sourced rain recording.
- Check samples and loops embedded in tracks or sound effects, and make sure the license covers a long-running public livestream.
- Clear the still image, animation, and any other visible material too.
- Keep a copy of the license terms, receipts, attribution text, and correspondence so you can answer a claim or verify what permission you received.
Using rights-cleared material reduces avoidable risk; it does not promise that a platform claim will never occur or guarantee monetization. Copyright permission is also distinct from YouTube’s rules about repetitive or reused content.

3. Build a distinctive rain-and-lofi station
Choose a defined listening use and mood—such as soft rain for focused evening study—then make the track selection, station title, artwork, and chat tone fit it. A specific identity gives listeners a clearer reason to choose your stream than a generic “study beats” label. This is editorial guidance, not a promise of audience growth.

Use an original or permissioned rain bed and lofi playlist. Listen to the full sequence, normalize perceived loudness so tracks do not jump sharply in volume, and check transitions for gaps, abrupt cuts, or competing audio. Pair the mix with a still image or a subtle looping visual. A still is simpler; animation can add atmosphere but should remain legible at small viewing sizes. Neither a visual loop nor a long pre-recorded mix changes the rights you need.
4. Choose how to keep the feed running
| Route | Best suited to | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Creators who want uploaded recordings or playlists to run continuously on YouTube without keeping a computer on | Runs from the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps as made at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day | YouTube only; you still need rights to the material and must supply the YouTube stream key |
| Computer with OBS | Creators who want a graphical control surface and direct access to scenes, sources, and overlays | Convenient to inspect and adjust a local scene and its audio sources | The computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available; an unattended setup needs monitoring and a recovery plan |
| Linux server with FFmpeg | Creators comfortable with command-line media setup and process supervision | Can run in the background and be configured to restart after a process failure | Requires server administration, logs or alerts, and familiarity with media inputs and stream settings; a restart script does not establish service uptime |
A third-party practical guide describes combining a radio audio source with a still or video loop using FFmpeg on a Linux server: RadioTech Studio’s OBS and FFmpeg workflow. Treat its instructions as a technical example, not as a YouTube guarantee or endorsement of a server provider. YouTube’s API documentation also shows that a channel can maintain an ongoing live feed and create separate broadcasts from the same stream when needed; this is not necessary for a first, single-feed station. See Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API overview.

When choosing between a local computer and a server, weigh setup skill, audio and visual flexibility, what happens when the connection fails, how you will monitor the process, and how quickly you can intervene. The available information does not establish one route as cheapest or most reliable for every creator.
5. Set YouTube encoder parameters and test the feed
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends checking upload speed, choosing a quality the connection can sustain, testing with representative audio and movement, and monitoring stream health. Its listed ingestion options include RTMP and RTMPS, and supported video codecs include H.264, H.265, and AV1; its guidance lists AAC or MP3 for audio. For a straightforward setup, H.264 video and AAC audio are common choices. Use the endpoint and key displayed in Studio, and prefer RTMPS, which YouTube describes as RTMP over an SSL connection. Google’s RTMPS ingestion overview calls it a good choice for most ordinary user content.
| H.264 target listed by YouTube | Minimum video bitrate | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s listed encoder settings, not a promise that a household connection will sustain the feed. They refer to video bitrate; leave upload headroom for network variation and other traffic. If your connection cannot reliably carry the target, lower the resolution or bitrate and test again. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for other frame rates and codecs.

Keyframes and audio
- Set a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- For stereo audio, YouTube recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps bitrate.
- Use constant bitrate encoding as YouTube recommends for its encoder settings.
Preflight before going public
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, confirm the intended broadcast and encoder destination, then copy the current stream key into the encoder’s protected stream-key field.
- Run a private or unlisted test where appropriate. Use the actual playlist, rain ambience, visual loop, resolution, and motion you intend to stream; a representative test is more useful than a silent or static placeholder.
- Watch the feed on a separate viewer device. Check for audible clipping, silence, uneven loudness, broken transitions, visual stutter, and an image that is hard to read at small sizes.
- Check the encoder’s outgoing status and YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health feedback. Resolve warnings before you announce the station.
6. Monitor failures and plan recovery
A continuous stream can be interrupted by a dropped connection, an encoder crash, a failed media source, or a problem at the destination. During operation, monitor both the encoder or process and YouTube’s stream health. For an OBS setup, make sure the computer will not sleep and that the application and connection remain available. For an FFmpeg service, use process supervision or restart logic and retain logs or alerts so you can tell whether it has failed. Automation improves recovery; it does not prove that a stream will never go offline.
- No feed in Live Control Room: check that the encoder uses the current YouTube endpoint and stream key and is sending to the intended broadcast.
- Video arrives but audio is silent: confirm the correct audio source is enabled, the media file has an audio track, and the encoder is sending the intended input.
- Stuttering or repeated health warnings: check actual upload capacity and competing traffic; reduce resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings.
- Audio jumps or clips: lower peaks and recheck loudness across track transitions before restoring the playlist.
- Feed stops after an interruption: inspect the encoder or service logs, restart the process, and verify that it is connected to the appropriate active broadcast. If an outage requires a new broadcast, update viewers with the new destination.
- Copyright claim or restriction: review the affected material and the permissions you hold, follow YouTube’s notices and dispute process where appropriate, and replace material you cannot substantiate. Do not assume a “no copyright” label settles a claim.

Costs and operating trade-offs
For a local or server workflow, compare costs over the planned run time rather than looking only at the encoder software. Include equipment or server charges, electricity where relevant, internet service, storage, and the time needed for setup, monitoring, and recovery. A dedicated computer may suit someone who wants local control, but the available evidence does not establish a model, minimum specification, benchmark, or price. Match any hardware decision to your resolution, codec, playback needs, and whether OBS will run locally.
StreamNeo uses one price per slot regardless of quality, with short or long billing periods. Its pricing page displays the regional price to each visitor:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year
Plans can be cancelled any time. For five or more slots, contact StreamNeo support. You can estimate upload duration with the upload-time calculator, compare cloud and PC costs with the cloud-vs-PC cost calculator, and review the copyright safety checklist.
