You can do this with software on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud service. Before setting it up, make sure your channel is eligible and that you have the necessary rights to stream every track.
Before you start: check eligibility and music rights
Enable live streaming ahead of time
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Confirm you can broadcast every track
You must hold the necessary rights for the music and other material in your live content. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say creators represent that they have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Buying a track or having access to a consumer music subscription does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. The licenses required depend on the tracks, rights holders, territories and use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match can replace your stream with a placeholder, trigger a warning, or interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even if you have a license, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Keep your licensing records available and review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Choose how to keep the playlist on air
Your setup needs to play or schedule the playlist, turn it into a continuous video feed, and send that feed to YouTube. YouTube accepts software and standalone hardware encoders; a dedicated encoder device is not required. Its encoder guide also references a cloud option for 24/7 prerecorded streams, but no single tool is mandatory.

A capture card, audio interface or microphone may suit a particular production, but none is inherently necessary for a prerecorded playlist stream.

Set up a playlist stream with an encoder
- Prepare the playlist and video feed. Choose the music you have permission to broadcast and assemble it in a player or encoder workflow that can repeat it continuously. Pair the audio with the visual presentation you want on the live feed. Confirm that playback does not stop when one track ends or require an unattended prompt.
- Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings.
- Enter the connection details in the encoder. Paste the YouTube stream URL and key into the encoder’s streaming destination. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it could send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots; reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Check the stream settings. Use settings supported by both your encoder and connection. For a music playlist, make sure the audio is clear and not clipping, and verify that the video output is stable. The supplied YouTube guidance does not prescribe one bitrate, resolution or keyframe interval for every setup, so do not apply a universal value without checking the encoder’s and YouTube’s current requirements for your chosen output.
- Test before going public. If useful, test privately or unlisted. Check the Live Control Room preview, then confirm playback on the channel or watch page with the intended audience access. Listen for gaps, distortion and incorrect levels; inspect the video for freezes or unexpected black frames. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring.
- Start the encoder and monitor the broadcast. Start the playlist output, confirm YouTube is receiving it, and monitor both audio and video. Leave upload capacity above the stream’s total bitrate: YouTube recommends 20% headroom over that bitrate. A connection with exactly enough measured upload speed can be vulnerable to fluctuations.
Keep the stream running and plan for interruptions
A 24/7 broadcast depends on the full chain remaining available: playlist playback, encoder, power, internet connection and YouTube’s ingest. With a computer-based setup, prevent sleep or automatic shutdown and make sure the player can loop without intervention. Check the preview and watch page periodically, especially after changing settings or restarting equipment.
YouTube’s Live Control Room settings include auto-start and auto-stop options; check their state before relying on them, and confirm the stream’s actual behavior after a restart. YouTube can interrupt a broadcast because of copyright matching even when the encoder is still sending video, so technical continuity does not replace rights clearance.

Do not count on one full-day replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not establish that a continuous 24/7 stream will be saved as one complete replay. If an archive matters, plan a separate recording or shorter broadcasts and verify what YouTube makes available for your channel.

- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live restriction in the previous 90 days, and has completed activation. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube is not receiving the encoder feed: Recheck the stream URL and key for typos, confirm the encoder is pointed at the intended stream, and verify that the encoder is actively sending. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The feed drops or buffers: Check the computer or encoder, power and network connection. Compare available upload capacity with the stream’s total bitrate and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% margin. Test again after reducing output demands if the connection cannot sustain them.
- The playlist stops or has silence: Check that repeat or looping is enabled, that the source files remain available, and that transitions do not require manual confirmation. Listen to the live output rather than relying only on the encoder’s status indicator.
- The stream is interrupted despite an active encoder: Check YouTube Studio for a copyright notice or other stream warning. Resolve rights issues with the relevant rights holders; licensed material may still require channel allowlisting.
- The live stream works but no complete 24-hour archive appears: YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed single replay for a continuous day-long broadcast. Use a separate recording plan if you need a complete copy.
