You can create a continuous YouTube broadcast by using OBS Studio to pair a static image with looping audio, then sending the encoder’s feed to YouTube Live. The stream stays live only while the encoder continues sending; test it and monitor stream health rather than assuming a single broadcast will run without interruption.
What you need
- A computer running OBS Studio with the image and audio files stored locally.
- A YouTube channel with access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- A stable upload connection capable of sustaining the chosen stream settings.
- Permission to use every audio recording and composition in a live broadcast.
OBS supports a software-encoder workflow; YouTube also documents hardware encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production-value events. The documentation does not prescribe a particular computer or require buying a dedicated machine.

Build the static-image scene and looping audio in OBS
Set up the image
- Open OBS Studio and create a scene for the broadcast.
- In Sources, add an Image source and choose the still image you want viewers to see. Resize and position it to fill the canvas without unwanted borders.
Choose how the audio repeats
Use one of these approaches, depending on whether you have one track or several:
- One audio file: Add a Media Source, select the local file, and enable Loop so it repeats.
- Several files: Add a VLC Video source, load the local files as a playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
OBS documents support for common audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Check that the audio is audible in OBS’s mixer and that the image and sound appear together in the preview before going live.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select a stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In OBS, open Settings, then Stream. Select the appropriate YouTube service or custom RTMP option, and enter the stream URL and key in the corresponding fields. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Apply the settings, then start streaming from OBS.
- Return to the Live Control Room, inspect the preview, and confirm that both video and audio are present before relying on the broadcast.
YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring stream quality continuously. A 24/7 broadcast is not guaranteed to remain uninterrupted just because it has started: the encoder must keep sending its feed.
Choose encoder settings and test the connection
For YouTube RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s settings guidance lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Set the bitrate for your output resolution and frame rate at a level your upload connection can sustain, then test under the conditions in which you intend to broadcast.

There is no single bitrate that suits every resolution, frame rate, and connection. If the upload cannot sustain the chosen bitrate, the stream can become unstable. Check the Live Control Room’s stream health and the OBS preview, including audio, before leaving the stream running.

With OBS, the broadcast depends on the computer, OBS, the media playback, and the internet connection continuing to work. A computer or connection interruption can stop the feed, so a long-running setup needs active monitoring and a plan to restart the encoder and check YouTube’s preview after an interruption. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring but does not promise uninterrupted uptime for a single broadcast.

A software encoder keeps the setup flexible and uses a computer you already have, but that computer must keep running the stream. A hardware encoder is another documented route; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production-value events, but does not require it for this setup. Neither route removes the need to monitor the feed.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. For a continuous 24/7 broadcast, do not promise that YouTube will retain a complete replay. Keep a local recording if you need a full archive.

Confirm music rights before going live
Possessing an audio file does not establish permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other rights participants. Confirm that your permissions cover live streaming and the intended territories. The broadcast must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
