For a dependable archive, do not rely on a single stream lasting more than 12 hours: YouTube warns that it may not capture streams exceeding that length.
Before you begin: channel access, music rights, and equipment
Confirm YouTube live-stream eligibility
YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions during the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Check live access in YouTube Studio before building a continuous setup; restrictions or incomplete eligibility can prevent you from going live. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Clear every recording in the playlist
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a particular song recording free to broadcast. A composition and a modern performance or recording can have different rights owners. Use only recordings for which you have the necessary rights, and check the exact tracks you plan to play. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt a stream when it detects a match. If you have a license, ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID; licensed music can still be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream. You need a computer that can run OBS, the authorized audio files or audio source, a suitable visual for the stream, and a stable internet connection. A UPS is optional if you want backup power for the computer and network equipment; choose capacity for your equipment’s load and the runtime you need. Neither YouTube nor OBS requires a particular UPS model.

Create the YouTube encoder broadcast

Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live. Choose the encoder workflow and create or schedule the broadcast.

Open the broadcast’s stream settings. Copy its YouTube stream URL and stream key; you will enter both in OBS if using a custom service. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your broadcast. Do not show it in screenshots, recordings, or public posts.

Keep YouTube Studio open so you can inspect the incoming preview and stream health after OBS connects. The exact labels may change as YouTube updates Studio; follow the encoder workflow shown for your account. See YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.

Install and open OBS. In Settings > Stream, select YouTube if the service is available and follow its connection flow. Otherwise choose a custom streaming service and enter the stream URL and key copied from YouTube Studio.

Create a scene for the broadcast. Add the authorized audio source and a devotional still image or visual loop. Check that the visual fills the canvas as intended and that the audio meter responds without clipping. Avoid including content in the scene unless you have permission to broadcast it.

In Settings > Output, configure the video encoder and bitrate. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance recommends 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. That is a range, not a minimum or a requirement for every devotional stream. A static image may not need 1080p30; choose a lower resolution or bitrate if that lets your connection run more reliably.

In Settings > Video, set the output resolution and frame rate to match the visual you intend to send and can sustain. For a still or simple loop, prioritize stable transmission over extra detail or frame rate.

Set the stream bitrate conservatively enough that your available upload capacity can carry it continuously. YouTube recommends keeping upload bandwidth at least 20% above the total stream bitrate. Leave room for normal network variation and other devices using the connection. See YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming tips.

Test, start, and monitor the stream

Start streaming in OBS while the YouTube broadcast is in preview mode. Confirm that Studio receives the picture and audio before selecting the option to go live, where the scheduled workflow requires it.

Listen to the stream audio and watch the picture in the YouTube preview. Check that the music is audible, the levels are not distorted, and the visual is framed correctly.

Check YouTube’s stream health and OBS connection status. If YouTube reports network instability, reduce the bitrate or output quality and test again rather than assuming the connection will improve during a long broadcast.

Once public, keep an eye on stream health, audio, and the connection. A 24/7 stream is an ongoing operation; test the whole loop and plan how you will notice and respond to a failure.

Plan continuity and a usable archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but if a stream exceeds 12 hours it may not be captured at all. If you need a dependable copy, record locally in OBS and verify that the recording file is growing and playable. Consider ending and restarting the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours when an archive matters, while planning how viewers will experience the interruption. YouTube does not receive the OBS stream: Recheck that OBS is using the matching stream URL and key from the intended Studio broadcast. If the key was exposed, replace it in Studio and update OBS.

The preview buffers or stream health is poor: The bitrate may exceed the stable upload capacity, or other network use may be consuming headroom. Lower the bitrate or resolution, ensure upload capacity exceeds the stream bitrate by YouTube’s recommended 20%, then test again.

Music is muted, interrupted, or triggers a copyright notice: Stop and review the exact recording’s permissions. A license does not necessarily prevent a live interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID.

The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Make a local recording and plan shorter sessions if the YouTube archive is important.

The stream is live but the audio is silent or distorted: Confirm the intended OBS audio source is active, the meter is moving, and the levels are not clipping. Verify the result in the YouTube preview before relying on the stream.
