To run a 24/7 Sikh devotional music stream on YouTube, set up a verified channel in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder using YouTube’s server URL and stream key, and secure rights for every recording and composition you plan to broadcast. Then test the feed, arrange monitoring and recovery, and decide how you will preserve replays: YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.
1. Prepare the channel and the music before launch
Enable live streaming early
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and not to have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. Check the channel’s access in YouTube Studio before building the broadcast.
Clear both the composition and the recording
For a stream, YouTube’s terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including relevant music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants, as well as to meet applicable requirements in the territories where the stream is available. A devotional or traditional work is not automatically cleared just because it is religious, old, or widely performed. The composition, a particular arrangement, and a specific sound recording can involve distinct rights. The status of any particular Gurbani recording and the local licensing requirements depend on the actual material and territories; the platform rules alone do not determine them.
Before scheduling, review permissions for the actual use you intend to make. Useful contract questions include whether the grant covers live online broadcast, territories, archived replays, monetization, duration, and the specific recordings and arrangements in your playlist. These are practical questions to take to rights holders or a qualified adviser, not a substitute for legal advice or a claim that one blanket license covers every use.

Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if the material remains. Even when you have permission, ask the relevant rights holder whether it needs to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Permission paperwork and the platform-side allowlisting process can be separate operational issues. YouTube documents this in its Help page, “Copyright issues with live streams.”
Do not treat Creator Music as a live-stream license
YouTube says tracks available for licensing or revenue sharing through Creator Music can be used in long-form videos, not live streams. Its Help page, “Understand Creator Music usage details,” also says Creator Music is currently available to U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion outside the U.S. pending; terms vary by track. It is not a shortcut for clearing music in a continuous live broadcast.

2. Choose how to encode the stream
YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders. Choose based on whether you need external audio/video connections, what the operator knows how to maintain, and whether the setup can recover from faults and make a local recording. Hardware is optional; YouTube’s setup guidance does not establish one encoder as best or mandatory.
- Software encoder: A practical choice when the operator can configure and supervise a computer-based broadcast. Confirm the computer can sustain the selected video settings and any local recording at the same time.
- Hardware encoder: Consider it when the workflow depends on external audio/video inputs or a dedicated encoding appliance. Confirm compatibility with YouTube Live and plan how someone will monitor the feed and respond to problems.
Neither option removes the need for a stable upload connection, a recovery plan, or rights clearance. YouTube recommends testing before starting, choosing a quality the available connection can sustain, and monitoring stream health.

3. Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and create the live event. Use Create → Go Live → Stream. Create or schedule the stream and set its title, description, visibility, and other viewer-facing details.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the matching server/URL and key fields in the encoder. Do not publish or share the key: treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement.
- Set the encoder protocol and media format. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Match the encoder’s codec, frame rate, keyframe interval, resolution, and bitrate to the current YouTube encoder recommendations for the output you select. The right bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, codec, and the upload connection; do not assume one value works for every setup.
- Choose sustainable video settings. Use a resolution and frame rate the source material, encoder, and internet connection can maintain continuously. A higher output setting is not automatically better if it causes dropped frames or stream interruptions. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for the specific codec and output profile rather than copying a bitrate from a different resolution or frame rate.
- Start with a test. Send a private or unlisted test if appropriate for your workflow, then check the preview and stream-health status in Live Control Room. Verify that video is moving, audio is audible and correctly mixed, and the stream remains stable before public launch.
- Go live from Live Control Room when scheduled. If you scheduled the event, wait for the encoder preview to appear before selecting Go live. Confirm the public watch page and audio from a viewer’s perspective as part of the launch check.
4. Design for continuous operation
YouTube’s setup and health-monitoring guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted availability or prescribe a particular failover design. For a 24-hour devotional service, decide in advance who notices a fault and what they will do. Keep access to the channel and encoder credentials available to authorized operators, and document the steps to restore the feed.
- Power: Consider what happens if the encoder or network equipment loses power. A backup power arrangement may reduce a local outage, but it does not replace monitoring.
- Internet: Choose settings the upload connection can sustain. If the main connection fails, define whether an operator can switch to a backup connection and how they will confirm the stream has recovered.
- Encoder recovery: Document how to restart the encoder and reconnect it to the same scheduled broadcast where possible. Test the procedure rather than relying on an untested assumption.
- Human monitoring: Assign someone to check Live Control Room’s stream health and respond to silence, a frozen picture, dropped connection, or a rights-related interruption.
These are operational precautions, not YouTube requirements or a guarantee that a stream will remain online.

5. Plan archives and viewer rewind separately from the live feed
Do not rely on YouTube to archive one uninterrupted day
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. If replay matters, make a local recording and consider planned shorter sessions rather than assuming an around-the-clock broadcast will produce a complete YouTube replay. Shorter sessions still require monitoring and do not guarantee that replay processing will succeed.
Set accurate expectations about DVR
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and resume a live stream, but DVR can be limited or unavailable for very long broadcasts, including streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise that viewers can rewind to any point in a full day of programming.

6. Understand the separate monetization question
Copyright permission does not by itself establish eligibility for YouTube monetization. YouTube’s reused-content policy separately considers whether the channel adds meaningful original value. In 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization. A simple loop of recordings made by other people may therefore raise both rights and monetization concerns. Original performance, production, or other genuine added value can provide a stronger editorial foundation, but it does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval.
7. Troubleshoot common launch and continuity problems
| What you see | Likely issue | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable in Studio | The channel is not verified, has a recent live-streaming restriction, or first-time enablement is still processing. | Check channel verification and restriction status. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours before the planned start. |
| The encoder cannot connect | The server URL or stream key may be missing, entered in the wrong field, or out of date. | Copy the current server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding encoder fields. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and replace it in the encoder. |
| The preview is unstable or reports poor stream health | The selected output may exceed what the encoder or upload connection can sustain. | Check stream health, then reduce the output demands—such as resolution, frame rate, or bitrate—in line with YouTube’s current encoder guidance and retest. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder | YouTube may have detected third-party content, or the rights holder may not have allowlisted the channel. | Check the relevant rights and Content ID arrangements with the rights holder. Do not assume that having a permission document automatically updates Content ID. |
| The all-day stream has no complete replay | YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours, and very long streams may have limited DVR. | Use a local recording if preservation matters. For YouTube replays, plan shorter sessions and do not promise complete rewind for a long broadcast. |
| The broadcast is live but viewers hear silence or see a frozen picture | The encoder may still be connected while its media input, playback, or audio routing has failed. | Check the source playlist, encoder input meters, and Live Control Room preview. Assign an operator to verify both sound and moving video during the broadcast. |
