Check the electoral-roll entry and choose the right form
Start by searching the electoral roll through the ECI Voters’ Services Portal. Confirm exactly which particular is wrong and note the relevant voter details before applying.

For an error in an existing entry—such as a misspelled name—use Form 8 and select its correction option. Form 8 also covers shifting residence, replacement of an EPIC (Elector Photo Identity Card) without correcting a roll entry, and marking a person with disability (PwD). These are separate purposes in the form; choose the one that matches your request.

How to submit a Form 8 correction
- Open the ECI service. Go to the Voters’ Services Portal and choose Form 8. ECI also says its Voter Helpline App supports searching the roll and modifying voter-registration details; use the official app-store links on ECI’s page.
- Select correction of entries. Form 8 covers several requests. Choose the correction purpose rather than shifting residence, replacement EPIC, or PwD marking if you are fixing an existing roll detail.
- Identify the error and enter the correct detail. Fill in the relevant section and specify which existing particular needs correction. ECI’s guidance says to attach a document supporting the claim and name that document in the form.
- Submit the application to the concerned ERO. Use the portal or app, or an available offline route through the relevant election authority. You do not need a paid intermediary to make an ordinary correction application.
- Keep the reference details and check status. The ECI FAQ describes tracking an online application with the reference ID issued at submission and checking submitted forms through the registered elector’s dashboard. If the status or result is unclear, contact the concerned ERO using official ECI or Chief Electoral Officer channels.
- Verify the roll after an order. Search the electoral roll again and confirm that the corrected detail appears. The ECI FAQ also points readers to state Chief Electoral Officer roll information.

Supporting document for the correction
Attach documentation that supports the particular you want corrected and identify the document in Form 8. The form and guidance require evidence for the claim; they do not establish one universal document for every kind of correction. Follow the current form instructions for your specific entry.

Aadhaar is not universally required
Form 8 includes an Aadhaar field for authentication of entries, but it also provides an option for an applicant who cannot furnish an Aadhaar number because they do not have one. Do not abandon a correction application solely because you do not have an Aadhaar number.
If the correction is to your photograph
For a Form 8 photo change, ECI guidance specifies a recent, good-quality, unsigned colour passport-size photograph with a white background, measuring 4.5 cm × 3.5 cm. This photograph specification applies to the photo-change request, not every type of correction.
Make an accurate declaration
The Form 8 declaration says that the supplied facts and particulars are true to the applicant’s knowledge and belief. ECI guidance states that knowingly making a false declaration is punishable under section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, with imprisonment up to one year, a fine, or both. Provide accurate information and evidence.
How long does a voter-detail correction take?
ECI’s FAQ does not establish a universal processing-time guarantee for a correction. Check the application using its reference details, and contact the concerned ERO if the status is unclear. Follow any current instructions from the ERO handling your application.
