The fastest free method is built into Microsoft Edge: open the page, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS, choose Save as PDF, adjust the print settings, and save the file. The conversion happens through Edge’s print workflow, so you do not need a paid converter or an extension for a normal page.
This guide covers full-page PDFs, cleaner exports, selected sections, print-preview failures, and an automated alternative for developers who need repeatable captures.
What you need before converting
- Microsoft Edge with the webpage already open.
- Permission to view the page. If the page requires a sign-in, sign in before opening the print dialog.
- A destination for the resulting PDF, such as your Downloads folder or a project directory.
Let the page finish loading first. Images, charts, and other elements that have not loaded may not appear in the print preview.
Convert an entire Edge page to PDF
- Open the print workflow. Select Settings and more (…) > Print. You can also right-click the page and choose Print, press Ctrl+P on Windows, or press Command+P on macOS.
- Choose a PDF destination. In the printer or destination list, select Save as PDF. Some systems present an operating-system PDF printer instead; that option also creates a PDF file.
- Set the page range and layout. Choose all pages, the current page, or a custom range. Select portrait or landscape orientation, a paper size, margins, and a scale that keeps the important content inside the printable area.
- Decide whether to include browser-added details. Headers and footers can add the page title, URL, date, or page numbers. Turn them off when you need a clean document; leave them on when the source address or pagination is useful.
- Choose background graphics when needed. Enable background graphics if colors, shaded panels, or background images are part of the information you need. Disable them for a simpler, ink-saving document.
- Inspect the preview, then save. Check the first page, page breaks, clipped tables, images, and the final page. Select Print or Save, choose a filename and folder, and confirm that the PDF opens.

Make a cleaner PDF before printing
Use Immersive Reader when the site supports it
Some pages expose an Immersive Reader icon in Edge’s address bar. You can also try F9. Immersive Reader presents the article without surrounding material such as advertising and site navigation. With the simplified view open, start the print workflow and review the preview again. The option is site-dependent, so the icon may not appear for every page.

Export only a selected part of a page
To make a PDF from a specific passage, image, or table, drag across the text or images you want. Right-click the selection, choose Print, select Save as PDF, and set the remaining options. This is useful for a single recipe, a quotation, or a small table when a full-page export would include unrelated material.
Handle long pages and lazy-loaded images
Scroll through a long page once before printing so content that loads as you move down has a chance to appear. Wait for charts and images to finish loading, then reopen the preview. If a site uses a print-specific layout, the PDF may intentionally differ from the screen view; use the preview to decide whether portrait, landscape, margins, or scale produce the most legible result.
Troubleshoot Edge print-preview problems
Print preview does not load or shows an error
- Cancel the print dialog.
- Retry from Settings and more (…) > Print or the keyboard shortcut.
- If it still fails, close and restart Edge.
- Reopen the page and start the print workflow again.
These retry-and-restart steps are Microsoft’s documented first response to a failed preview. If one page fails while another prints, the problem may be specific to that page’s scripts or layout.

The PDF is blank or missing images
- Return to the page and wait until visible images and embedded content finish loading.
- Scroll through a long page to trigger content that loads on demand, then print again.
- Check the preview with background graphics enabled if the missing information is part of a colored panel or background image.
- Try Immersive Reader for an article-style page, when available.
Text or tables are cut off
- Switch to landscape for wide tables.
- Reduce the scale slightly or choose narrower margins.
- Choose a larger paper size if the document allows it.
- Use a page range to isolate the troublesome section and inspect its page break.
The PDF includes unwanted navigation, ads, or chat controls
Use Immersive Reader when the page offers it. Otherwise, hide what you can with the site’s own reading or print view and check whether the page provides a reader mode. Edge’s normal print flow reproduces the page’s printable layout; it does not promise to remove every overlay.

Confirm that the save operation completed and that the filename ends in .pdf. Try opening it again from the folder where you saved it. Edge includes a built-in PDF reader that can open local, online, and embedded PDF files, so reopening the file in Edge is a quick way to distinguish a damaged save from a viewer problem.
Edge’s built-in method versus an online converter
For a one-off page, Edge is usually the simplest choice because the page is rendered in your browser and the PDF is saved through the local print dialog. An online converter can be useful when a server, script, or team workflow must capture pages without a person operating a browser.
