Install the package for your .NET application, create an HtmlToPdfConverter, call Convert with a URL, file, or HTML string, then save the returned PdfDocument. Blink executes modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, so it is suited to pages that older HTML converters cannot render correctly.
This guide covers package selection, URL and string conversion, JavaScript-heavy pages, local resources, authenticated requests, ASP.NET Core deployment, Linux dependencies, licensing, layout control, diagnostics, and a browser-free ScreenshotNeo alternative.
Choose the correct Syncfusion package first
Package selection follows the application and hosting platform rather than the input format. Syncfusion documents the Blink converter for Windows Forms, WPF, ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, and ASP.NET Core. For ASP.NET Core applications targeting .NET 8.0 or later, the documented package is Syncfusion.HtmlToPdfConverter.Net.Windows.
Install the package from the NuGet feed used by your project, and keep the Syncfusion PDF and HTML converter package versions aligned. In trial or NuGet-based setups covered by Syncfusion’s Blink documentation, register a Syncfusion license key before production conversion.

Deployment checklist
- Confirm the target framework and operating system supported by the package.
- Include the Blink native binaries in the published application. Current documented package versions copy them automatically;
BlinkPathis available when you keep binaries in a custom directory. - On Linux, install
libgbm1; Syncfusion identifies this dependency from version 20.1.0.55. - Provide the required Syncfusion license key when your license or package arrangement requires it.
Minimal URL-to-PDF conversion in C#
The following is the smallest useful program for a public webpage:
using Syncfusion.HtmlConverter;
using Syncfusion.Pdf;
HtmlToPdfConverter htmlConverter = new HtmlToPdfConverter();
using (PdfDocument document = htmlConverter.Convert("https://example.com"))
{
document.Save("Output.pdf");
}
Convert returns a PdfDocument. Dispose it after saving so native rendering resources are released. In a web application, save to a stream instead of a shared filename when concurrent requests can arrive.
ASP.NET Core response example
using Syncfusion.HtmlConverter;
using Syncfusion.Pdf;
app.MapGet("/invoice.pdf", () =>
{
var converter = new HtmlToPdfConverter();
using var document = converter.Convert("https://example.com/invoice");
using var stream = new MemoryStream();
document.Save(stream);
return Results.File(stream.ToArray(), "application/pdf", "invoice.pdf");
});
For a real service, configure converter settings once where practical, isolate temporary files, and apply request time limits so a slow or unreachable origin cannot occupy a worker indefinitely.
Convert an HTML string, local file, SVG, or MHTML
HTML string with a base URL
When converting a string, pass a base URL so relative references such as css/site.css, web fonts, images, and scripts can resolve. Without a base URL, the PDF may contain unstyled text or missing images.

var settings = new BlinkConverterSettings
{
EnableJavaScript = true
};
var converter = new HtmlToPdfConverter
{
ConverterSettings = settings
};
using PdfDocument document = converter.Convert(html, "https://reports.example.com/");
document.Save("report.pdf");
The same converter family accepts a URL, local HTML file, HTML string, SVG, MHTML, and authenticated web content. Use the overload documented for your installed package when supplying a file path or stream.
Local files and local resources
EnableLocalFileAccess controls whether local CSS, JavaScript, images, and fonts referenced by the input may load. Enable it only when the files are trusted and the deployment needs it. If it is disabled, use HTTPS-hosted resources or package all content in a way supported by your converter version.
Make JavaScript-heavy pages render reliably
Blink supports JavaScript. BlinkConverterSettings.EnableJavaScript controls execution and is enabled in the documented example. A page that fills a chart, invoice, or application shell after an asynchronous request can still be captured too early, so synchronization is essential.
Wait for an application-ready signal
Add a page-status signal after your application has finished rendering:

<script>
fetch('/api/report')
.then(r => r.json())
.then(data => {
renderReport(data);
window.status = 'completed';
});
</script>
Configure the corresponding Blink page-status setting in the converter version you installed. This is more deterministic than guessing a delay because it waits for the application’s actual completion event.
Inject JavaScript before rendering
BlinkConverterSettings.JavaScript lets you inject script into the input HTML or URL before Blink renders it. Use it to hide a print-only control, expand a collapsed panel, or set window.status when you cannot edit the source page. Keep injected code idempotent because it may run on every conversion.
Fonts, viewport, and media
- Wait for external fonts when typography affects line wrapping or pagination.
- Set a viewport appropriate to the design; a narrow default viewport can trigger a mobile breakpoint.
- Select screen or print media deliberately. Print CSS may hide navigation, while screen CSS may preserve it.
- Set page margins explicitly when headers, footers, or edge-to-edge artwork must fit.
Authenticated pages and HTTP content
For protected content, configure the converter’s request options for the authentication method used by the site. Syncfusion documents support for authenticated pages and HTTP GET/POST content. Supply cookies, headers, or posted form data through the API exposed by your package version, and never hard-code credentials in source control.
Test authentication from the same machine and identity that runs the converter. A page that works in your browser may fail under a service account because of missing certificates, proxy settings, DNS access, or a different cookie scope.

Useful Blink settings for layout and document structure
Table of contents
Set EnableToc to generate a contents section from headings h1 through h6. Use a consistent heading hierarchy; decorative headings can otherwise create misleading entries.
Custom binary location
Use BlinkPath when native binaries are stored outside the package’s default output directory. Verify that the process identity can read the directory and execute the binaries, and that every native dependency is present in the deployed image.
Print-safe HTML
- Use explicit page-break rules around chapters or invoices.
- Give tables stable widths and avoid relying on overflow scrolling.
- Use absolute or data URLs for assets that must remain available during conversion.
- Prefer web fonts with a predictable loading path, then wait for them before signaling completion.
Common failures and precise fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Blank or nearly blank PDF | Origin timed out, blocked the renderer, or content was injected after capture. | Open the URL from the conversion host, increase the documented timeout, enable JavaScript, and wait for a page-status signal. |
| CSS or images missing from an HTML string | No base URL or inaccessible relative resources. | Pass a correct base URL and verify DNS, TLS, and resource permissions. |
| Local images and fonts do not load | Local-file access is disabled. | Enable EnableLocalFileAccess only for trusted content, or move assets to an accessible HTTPS origin. |
| Layout looks mobile | Viewport is narrower than the design breakpoint. | Set the Blink viewport to the intended desktop width and regenerate. |
| Charts are missing | JavaScript did not run or conversion finished before drawing. | Enable JavaScript and signal completion with window.status after the chart is rendered. |
| “Library not found” or native startup error | Blink binaries were not published, path is wrong, or Linux dependency is absent. | Publish native files, set BlinkPath if needed, install Linux libgbm1, and check execute/read permissions. |
| Unauthorized page in the PDF | Cookies, headers, or posted credentials were not sent. | Configure the converter’s authenticated-request options and test with the service account. |
| Text wraps differently between machines | Different fonts, media mode, viewport, or rendering environment. | Install the same fonts, choose media and viewport explicitly, and treat the published runtime as the reference environment. |
Performance, reliability, and cost decisions
Blink starts a browser-grade rendering path, so conversion is heavier than string-only PDF generation. Reuse stable settings, avoid converting the same immutable page repeatedly, and queue large batches rather than launching unbounded parallel conversions. Cache upstream HTML or completed PDFs when business rules permit it.
Reliability depends on the page as well as Syncfusion: third-party scripts, consent dialogs, blocked bot checks, slow fonts, and unstable APIs can all change output. Make readiness explicit, record the source URL and converter version, and retain failure logs without storing sensitive HTML or credentials unnecessarily.
Best Value
There is no independent performance or accuracy benchmark established here, so choose capacity from your own pages, concurrency, and timeout requirements rather than an advertised conversion rate.
Or skip the browser setup: ScreenshotNeo
If your requirement is a clean PDF or image of a live webpage rather than an embedded .NET conversion pipeline, ScreenshotNeo provides a single HTTP endpoint. It accepts cookie and consent banners as a visitor, removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, and supports PDF output. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; each response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf to Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Use the API documentation at screenshotneo.com/docs/ for all options, including paper size, margins, page ranges, JavaScript, wait conditions, authentication, headers, cookies, geolocation, and signed webhooks.
