The print preview matters: websites can use a different print layout than their on-screen design, so columns, images, menus, and page breaks may change.
Convert a webpage to PDF in any desktop browser
- Open the exact page you want to preserve. Wait for important images or sections to finish loading.
- Open the browser menu and choose Print. You can usually also press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on macOS.
- In the printer or destination list, choose Save to PDF, Microsoft Print to PDF, or the browser’s equivalent PDF option.
- Set the page range, paper size, orientation, scale, margins, color, headers and footers, and background graphics as needed.
- Inspect every page in the preview. Look for clipped tables, missing images, unexpected blank pages, navigation menus, and text that is too small.
- Select Save, choose a filename and folder, and open the resulting PDF to verify it.
A PDF made this way is a print rendering, not a guarantee that every interactive control, animation, lazy-loaded section, or dynamically generated panel will remain functional. If the page changes while you are working, refresh it and repeat the preview.
Chrome: save a website as a PDF
- Open the page in Chrome.
- Select the three-dot menu, then Print.
- Set Destination to Save as PDF.
- Open More settings to adjust paper size, margins, scale, headers and footers, and background graphics.
- Review the preview and select Save.
Chrome’s labels and menu placement can change between releases. If you do not see Save as PDF, select the system print dialog or another PDF destination and check its printer list.
Firefox: print a web page to PDF
- Open the Firefox menu and select Print.
- Set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Choose orientation, pages, color mode, paper size, scale, pages per sheet, and margins.
- Decide whether to use Original or Simplified format when that choice appears.
- Configure headers and footers and whether backgrounds are printed.
- Check the preview, then select Print and choose a filename.
Firefox’s Simplified format can make an article easier to read by removing surrounding page elements. When Simplified format is selected, Firefox does not offer background printing. Print settings can also include duplex printing, although the available controls vary with the selected printer or platform.

Settings that determine the final PDF
Page range and orientation
Use a page range when you need only selected pages. Portrait is normally best for article text; landscape can prevent wide tables, code, or dashboards from being cut off.
Paper size, scale, and margins
Choose the paper size expected by the reader, such as A4 or Letter. Reduce scale when a wide table is clipped, but inspect readability before saving. Increasing margins can prevent text from touching the edge; reducing them can eliminate large empty bands.
Headers, footers, color, and backgrounds
Turn headers and footers off if you do not want the URL, date, or page title printed. Enable backgrounds when the page’s meaning depends on colored panels or background images. Backgrounds increase visual fidelity but can consume more ink when printed later.
Preview and print CSS
Websites may define print-specific CSS. A navigation bar can disappear, cards can stack vertically, and a dark screen theme can become a light paper layout. Treat the preview as the authoritative representation of what will be saved.

When the browser result needs improvement
Use the built-in workflow first for a normal article, documentation page, or receipt. Consider a more configurable converter when you need a wide or multi-page layout, structured navigation, accessibility metadata, or control over how HTML elements are interpreted.
Acrobat web-page conversion controls
Adobe Acrobat documents an advanced path at All tools > Create a PDF > Web page > Advanced settings. Depending on the current Acrobat edition and platform, its settings can include:
- Bookmarks and PDF tags that preserve navigation and HTML structure for accessibility.
- Headers, footers, colors, character encoding, and language-specific fonts.
- Backgrounds, image conversion, underlined links, and multimedia handling.
- Expansion of scrollable blocks that would otherwise show only their visible height.
- Page size, orientation, and scaling wide content to fit.
These controls are optional, not required for an ordinary one-page save. Confirm that the feature and labels exist in your Acrobat edition before designing a workflow around them.

Common problems and fixes
The PDF is blank or missing sections
Wait for the page to finish loading, scroll through it to trigger lazy content, and print again. A script-generated section may not exist in the print rendering. If it is essential, use the site’s own export function or an advanced conversion workflow.

Images are absent
Check that images are visible before opening Print. Enable background graphics if the images are CSS backgrounds. Images that load only after interaction may not be included by a basic print operation.
A table or code block is cut off
Switch to landscape, reduce scale, choose a larger paper size, or increase the printable width by adjusting margins. If the result becomes unreadably small, split the content into page ranges or use a converter with wide-content scaling.
There are large blank areas
Try a different paper size, reduce margins, switch orientation, or disable a print-specific background element. Preview after each change instead of saving multiple uncertain files.
Headers, URLs, or dates appear unexpectedly
Disable browser print headers and footers. These are separate from the page’s own content, so hiding them does not remove headings deliberately included by the site.

Text looks different from the webpage
This is normally caused by print CSS, font substitution, or scaling. Compare the preview with the page, select Original rather than Simplified in Firefox when appropriate, and verify the saved PDF at 100% zoom.
The page keeps changing while printing
Pause auto-refreshing dashboards or wait for asynchronous content to settle. For a reproducible record, save after the page displays the exact state you need and record the capture time in the filename.
