If you want to keep automation on but specify the offer, dates, and terms yourself, create a manual promotion asset instead. Google says automated promotions bypass campaigns that already have a manual promotion running.
Turn off website-sourced automated promotions
Google Ads calls this feature Automated promotions. It is separate from manually created promotion assets and from other automated assets such as dynamic sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, and images. The following path reflects Google Ads Help’s documented interface; labels can change.

- In Google Ads, open Campaigns > Assets.
- Open the three-dot More menu in the filter bar and choose Account level automated assets.
- On that page, open the three-dot menu and select Advanced settings.
- Find Automated promotions and set it to Off. Google may ask for a reason.
This is an account-level control for automated promotions. You do not need to turn off every automated asset type if promotions are the only concern. See Google’s Automated promotions instructions.
Check which promotions Google has found
- Open Assets and filter the asset type to Promotion.
- Review the Added by column. Automated promotions are identified as Google AI.
- Hover over the Google AI label for sourcing details. Hover over the promotion name for asset details such as its headline.
Google documents automated promotions for eligible active Search and Performance Max campaigns with Location Assets. A campaign must not already have a manual promotion running, and the ads must meet Google Ads policies. Eligibility does not mean every website offer will be selected or served; Google’s sourcing and serving depend on its verification and eligibility systems.

Use manual promotion assets for control over the offer
If you want to control the deal rather than switch off the feature account-wide, create a manual promotion asset. Google identifies manual uploads as the way to specify exactly what is shown, including promotion start and end dates. Include the offer details customers need to understand and redeem it, and link to the full terms where available.
- The offer, discount or coupon code, and applicable conditions
- Promotion start and end dates
- Any spending limit or other restrictions
- How customers redeem the offer
- A link to the offer’s full terms, if available
Promotion assets can be added at account, campaign, or ad-group level. When assets exist at several levels, the most specific one takes precedence: ad group over campaign, and campaign over account. This allows a narrower group of ads to use a different offer while a broader-level asset remains in place. Google’s promotion asset guidance covers configuration and scheduling.
Asset scheduling and the dates displayed to customers are distinct settings in some workflows. Check both the promotion’s displayed dates and any schedule for the asset’s serving days or times. Google also says occasion-specific promotion assets must be created or edited within six months of their start date to be eligible; assets not modified for six months are automatically paused.

Google advises keeping promotional details on the website up to date, or manually uploading specific promotions when exact control is required. Its current feature documentation says an automated promotion is eligible to serve for a limited period of less than 24 hours; it may become eligible again if Google can continuously verify that the deal remains visibly available. Google notes this behavior may change as its ability to extract promotion start and end dates improves, so treat it as current product guidance rather than a permanent serving rule.

To assess performance, Google recommends segmenting campaign reports by click type. Consider campaign impressions and conversions alongside clicks on the promotion itself rather than judging the promotion only by its own clicks.

If by “promotions” you mean other content Google derives from your site, use the relevant automated asset control in Account level automated assets > Advanced settings. Google lists dynamic sitelinks, dynamic structured snippets, callouts, business information, images, and automated promotions among account-level automated assets. You can turn off specific automated asset types without disabling all of them. See Google’s account-level automated assets guide.
Rank #4
Dynamic structured snippets have an additional per-item control: Google says an individual generated snippet can be paused or removed. Pausing stops it from serving while retaining it for possible re-enablement; removing deletes it so it cannot serve later. Do not assume identical individual controls exist for every automated asset type. Performance Max settings such as text customization and final URL expansion affect generated text or landing-page selection, but are separate from the Automated promotions toggle.
