To stop followers from seeing what you play, turn off Listening Activity in Spotify’s social settings or start a Private Session for a temporary pause. Those controls hide activity from other Spotify users; they do not erase Spotify’s stored listening history. Spotify has not documented a separate privacy toggle for answers in the Top Song Quiz, so do not assume a Private Session hides quiz responses.
Hide your listening from followers
Spotify provides two controls for sharing listening with followers in Friend Activity. Turning off Listening Activity stops that sharing until you turn it back on. A Private Session pauses it temporarily. Spotify says Private Sessions are available in its mobile, tablet and desktop apps, and reset after six hours or when the app restarts. Spotify’s settings guidance may vary slightly by market or app version.

Check public profile and playlist settings separately
Friend Activity sharing is not the same as what appears on your public profile. Spotify lists separate controls for recently played artists, whether new playlists are public, and whether new playlists appear on your profile. Review these in Settings and privacy → Privacy and Social on mobile or Settings → Social on desktop; labels and availability can differ by version or market. Spotify’s support page describes these controls. Its listed defaults also vary by age: several social settings are on for users 18 and older and off for younger users. Spotify advises users under 18 to consult a guardian before changing them.

What Spotify Wrapped and the Top Song Quiz reveal
Spotify introduced the Top Song Quiz in its 2025 Wrapped experience in the mobile app. It asks listeners to guess which track soundtracked their year. Spotify’s announcement describes the feature but does not specify whether individual answers can be hidden separately or explain their visibility to other people. Spotify’s 2025 Wrapped announcement therefore does not establish a dedicated quiz privacy switch.
Private Session is a control for sharing activity with other users, not a way to delete account history. Spotify’s privacy policy says it retains streaming history for the life of an account and deletes or de-identifies that data when the account is deleted. Read Spotify’s privacy policy.

Private listening and 2025 Wrapped calculations
Spotify’s published 2025 rules distinguish total listening minutes from taste-based stories and eligibility. Private Mode listening and content excluded from a Taste Profile still count toward total listening minutes, but do not shape taste-based stories. Spotify’s 2025 eligibility rule required at least 30 songs streamed for more than 30 seconds each and at least five different artists; streams from Private Mode or content excluded from a Taste Profile did not count toward eligibility. These are rules Spotify published for the 2025 edition, not a promise about future Wrapped editions. Spotify’s announcement and 2025 Wrapped questions and answers explain the distinction.

Spotify’s Listening Activity in Messages is separate from Friend Activity for followers. The opt-in feature can show what you are listening to in real time to connected message contacts. Spotify’s announcement, updated June 17, 2026, says that joining a group with activity enabled shares real-time status with that group by default; controls are in the group chat settings. An update dated September 17, 2026, says you can hide another person’s activity from that person’s profile without changing your messaging or follow status. These group and contact controls do not replace the follower-sharing settings above. Spotify’s Messages announcement and updates.
