If the screen is unusable and debugging was not set up, scrcpy is not a reliable first-time recovery route. Try an OTG mouse if the display still works, or—on a compatible Samsung Galaxy—connect an external display and input devices. None of these methods bypasses the lock screen.
Choose a method based on what still works

Use scrcpy when USB debugging is ready
scrcpy is free, open-source software from Genymobile for mirroring and controlling Android over USB or TCP/IP. The project lists Android API 21 or later as a requirement. For normal USB mirroring, USB debugging must already be enabled. If the connected computer has not been authorized, Android may ask you to approve it on the phone.

Some devices may also require an additional debugging security setting to allow simulated input. Genymobile notes this for some Xiaomi devices. Because the phone must permit the connection and input, scrcpy is useful when you can still use the screen or have an already-authorized setup—not as a lock-screen bypass for an inaccessible phone.
What scrcpy OTG mode does—and does not do
scrcpy’s OTG mode sends keyboard and mouse input without USB debugging, but it disables mirroring. It therefore cannot show a black or unusable phone screen on the PC. Consider it only when you can see the phone’s display and need another way to enter input.

Get scrcpy from Genymobile’s official GitHub repository. The project warns against downloading copies from unrelated websites using the scrcpy name.
Try a mouse when touch has failed
If the display still shows the interface, connect a wired mouse to the phone using a compatible USB OTG adapter. The pointer can let you navigate and, if the phone accepts the input, unlock it or operate it. Samsung says some Galaxy phones support a mouse through an OTG USB connector; support is device-dependent. A mouse connected this way controls the phone directly and does not create a PC mirror.

Use an external display for a compatible Galaxy
When a Galaxy screen is broken or unusable, Samsung Australia documents a route using a USB-C-to-HDMI hub or adapter, an external display, an HDMI cable, and a wired mouse or keyboard. Its instructions specify a phone running Android 12 or later that is compatible with DisplayPort output. Samsung US also describes using a DeX station or similar docking adapter for supported devices.

- Check the exact phone model’s specifications or Samsung support information to confirm it supports wired DisplayPort video output. A USB-C connector alone does not establish video compatibility.
- Connect the compatible USB-C-to-HDMI hub or adapter to the phone, then connect the hub to the display with an HDMI cable.
- Attach a wired mouse or keyboard to the hub or docking adapter and use the external display to operate the phone.
- Unlock the phone as usual. These connections do not remove the lock screen or guarantee access to data.
The hub or adapter, display, HDMI cable, and input devices are separate hardware requirements; Samsung notes they are not included with the phone. Confirm compatibility before buying an adapter. Know when PC control is not possible
If the phone is off, remains locked, or cannot authorize the connection, neither scrcpy nor an adapter guarantees recovery. Debugging access requires the phone to permit the PC, and external-display or OTG routes require compatible hardware and a usable, powered device. Samsung advises contacting a service center if the phone will not turn on or the necessary setup cannot be completed. Do not assume that data can be recovered from an unpowered, locked, or unauthorized phone.
